Wade & Butcher - Sheffield - Barbers Rattler *Tiger Maple*
What we have here is a Wade & Butcher, Sheffield 'Barbers Rattler' that got some nice tiger maple scales.
Blade got nicely restored and is pretty much blemish free with a few barely noticeable remaining residual stains.
Basically the maple scales got cut, sanded and dyed with a combination of a few dye colors. After the drying the scales got sanded down and slightly dyed again. After another drying and sanding session the scales got several coats of dewaxed ruby shellac. Again, between each layer a drying time and light sanding is required.
Polyurethane was used as the last step and I lost count on how many coating layers I used but I spend a week doing so.
Finally I left it to cure for another week.
It's not so much the work but the drying times and patience that is involved. The results is truly stunning and pics don't even do them justice.
Also a big thanks to 'Floppyshoes', who besides being a true living encyclopedia for wood finishing and products, has given me some excellent advise.
