8/8 Wade & Butcher - The Celebrated in G10 B/W

Where in God's name do they keep finding those huge Wade & Butcher.

It's incredible how many I have worked on. Talk about shortage. :)

Big 8/8, 1/4 Hollow that never disappoints. The blade had the usual patina and light staining. This one restored to A+.

After I had finished throwing this beast at all my tools I was really impressed by the results. For a blade that's a least over a hundred years old it looks as good when it was produced. Sometimes we encounter razors that just have the tendency to really be restored to immaculate. This is one of those.

I was asked to use G10 Black/Tan with an adjustable screw since the owner likes to have a tight pivot. The brass micro fasteners adjustable weren't truly a perfect fit so a ss button head torx screw was chosen which uses a pivot barrel of 1/8". The pivot hole of the W&B was already very large so it wasn't really a problem either to drill a 1/8" hole. Screws hold everything together from both sides. Talk about a tight fit. As to the wedge Tapered black linen micarta.

I think yer right Mad Max, some of the best finishes on restores are those old heavy bladed W&B's
My theory is that there is Soooooooooo much steel for us to mess with....

Love the look there...

Wow!! another beauty! I have to say, I have been working with G10 for the past few days and this stuff is rediculously hard. I thought it would be like micarta, but ohhh no. It takes skill and patience for sure. Way to go!!

It is indeed a though cookie to master. One word of advise. Don't skimp on the finish trying to cut corners cause it's taking so long. G10 needs to be immaculate when sanded and finished because you will see any minor imperfection. The only real way to work with G10 is lots of patience and always make sure your sanding your way up in slow progression. Make sure all sanding scratches are gone and uniform.

That's also one of the reason you don't see to many venture into using G10. Many just don't have the patience and time. :)

Thanks for the advice. I now know why many don't do it. I have used linen micarta in the past and its nice and easy to work with. This G10 is a bear, but the results are worth it. Thanks for the tips!!

The owner lives in Missouri but is on vacation, I think. Hopefully he'll come forward when he's back. :)

It's such a good looking razor that I think I'm going to need an actual address, and the usual times when someone would be at the house... you know, just to make sure it gets there ok:angel:

Did you get you G10 from masecraft? Mine seems to look a little different..like the black is thicker than the white layers...yours looks the opposite.

Yep, I notice that batches can be different from masecraft. There seems to be an inconsistency in the materials.

Wow, Wow, Wow. I had the update when I got back from camping a couple hours ago. I was at a place that was dead to the Internet and cell coverage. You did an excellent job as usual Max. Sharpen her up and send her back. I will be waiting by the mailbox. I also have to thank my Son-in-Law Enuf2 for picking that one up in Tennessee for me. I am looking forward to shaving with that brute.

All I can say is I'm speechless. Never could I have imagined the awesomeness in the beauty of that chopper. I do know where there are 2 more, I may need to think twice on what to do with them. Beautiful work Max I can only hope to be half that talented someday.

I thought I would report in this thread an update on this fine razor. I received it yesterday and was really pleased. I shaved with it without stropping and must say it is a 9.8 out of 10. It is every bit as good as my Dorko which is my best shaver. It commands a top place among my rotation and will stay there a long time. The G-10 material is excellent and was very smooth. I hope I can last as long. It looks like it will be around for many generations. Enough talk so here is another picture.
