Barber's Pet 5/8 in BONE!

This blade was the customer's grandfathers. I don't think he is an SRP member. He requested the blade to only be polished, and the scales replaced with bone.

This was my first attempt at Bone scales. STINK. STINKY. STINK. My wife hates me! My neighbors probably too! Its that stinky.

Unbleached Cow bone, White acrylic spacer, brass inner washers, SS outter washers, 1/16" Nickel Silver rod.

You can see some pitting remains. I wasn't paid to remove it ;) I was able to find a good bevel, and it honed up fantastic. I had a shave with it... :)

Very nicely done Brad! I was thinking of going this route for a rescale. If I do I guess I should have at it before it gets too cold in my shop so I can keep the doors and windows open. It will probably drive the dogs nuts. They like stinky stuff ya know. At least they haven't rolled in poop or gotten sprayed by a skunk yet this summer. Stinky dead fish is another of their favorite roll on stuff.

Don't know how deep that edge pitting goes but maybe just as well to not tempt fate.

Thats inspiring work there Brad, I definately want to try the bone scales myself. Did you just get a big bone from the butcher and let it dry out, or is it more complicated than that?

I used a bone from a pet shop, meant for dogs. They are pre-cooked, and therefore dried out, I had no issues at all with it, I highly recommend it -- just pick out your bone CAREFULLY... u want as many flat surfaces as possible.

It may have been stinky, but it looks great! I'm going to have to try some.

Nicely done man! I'm sure it smells gross, but what a result! I have a Barber's Pet too, I love it, one of my favourite shavers, good luck with your stinky razor.

Nice job. Those look great. Did you treat them with lacquer or anything, or is it just a high grit polish?

I agree on that statement about stink. Even just making wedges this summer for a couple of my first tries was tough. The first time I used it, I only had a light dust mask on, and throughout the whole process I thought I was going to gag. Needless to say, I purchased a better mask.
