This was an art piece I've been working on. I did some hand engraving on the spine in what I call a French Baroque design. The spine is a rich, deep gunmetal blue and provides an outstanding and comfortable grip. The razor is an 8/8 HCS barber's notch with very hard to get elephant bark ivory scales. I was really pleased with this piece and had to share.

Yeah, that spine work kicks butt, especially the part from the tang to monkey tail. Awesome.

Interesting piece, it all fits together well, but it's not quite my cup of tea. Loving the shoulderless wedge with a barber notch, and the colour of that spine. I like the worked spine somewhat, but personally think it would look better without the fancy wedge end of the scales, and without the stippling on the spine (just feels a bit too 'busy' with all that spinework, IMHO).
Also, please forgive my ignorance, but how does elephant bark ivory differ from normal ivory?

The stippling can't be done chemically - at least as far as I know. It's done with a chasing hammer (or jeweler's hammer, I suppose) and a very small, very hard tipped punch.Quote:

I love the file work and the texture on the back of that razor. The whole design is great. The stippling, little notches and unique patterns make for a very classy looking razor.

Small voice of dissent: I think the scales are too long and the toothing is just awful, just as the shiny gold wedge.
That said:
Very nice! The ivory, though not very thick, has a very sturdy, manly look. I also especially like the curve of the spine, tang and tail. It has something organic to it, like a rat's tail or that of a lizard. And the tip does look like a crocodile peeping at the water line, I agree with Mandrake.
To the top with a request for 1 more pics and 2 review on how it shaves!
