This old fella belongs to an Aussie SRP lurker. You signed up yet Hugh ? :D
Regretfully, no before pics but hey it's about the destination not the journey. Right ? :p
All original except for pins & washers. Etch & stamps all survived.
Some (original ?) file marks on the tang were ignored for fear of losing the stamp.
Soooo.... IIRC... Bakelite scales had a deeply carved "W" on one side so some serious sanding & polishing fixed that.
Refitted original skinny pewter wedge. No room for error opening & closing this puppy.
Blade unevenly honed & very worn. Frowning edge & generally corroded steel. The microscope pic (#4) shows the level of pitting, even after resto.
As pretty as the bright finish was the tarnish bugged me. A light cold blue & repolish gave the blade a more uniform tone whilst keeping a nice shine. First 3 pics show the pre blued finish... & the tarnish that wouldn't shift.... even after all the sanding
Fourth & subsequent pics are all post bluing.
Took him to my wet grinder to correct the heel & edge . No dramas.
Started the bevel with tape but soon realised I was just rehoning another frown due to the spine wear so lost the tape and did some selective honing at toe & heel to even things up. Got the edge pretty uniform & the shave is superb... as all Bengalls should be :)
