Filarmonica 7/8 Customs in Curly Nara and in Cocobolo

This is the second of three razors for my friend Crankymoose, you have to see the first one to see why I did things a certain way

This second one we used some Curly Nara wood in the same pattern, and I tied back to #1 with the Emerald acrylic wedge, and the same center pin set... The Nara is finished with 8 coats of wipe on gloss Poly, it is a rather easy wood to work, I liked the look a lot...

Another nice job on one of these Fillies. I like this wood choice, I'll have to keep an eye peeled for some. I like the accent of the center pin, and to top it all off these blade are great shavers.

Nice Glen, I have to say, the one think I don't like about the Fily's are the original scales at least on the NOS blades. When you get up to a no 14, with the 15/16th blade, The balance is horrible, and the scales feel like they're going to break in half any minute....Great blade though

That's an interesting looking wood. To me, that finish and the grain pattern looks a lot like fine, soft leather, so it sort of looks like you're tucking away the blade in a wallet or in a leather jacket. Very cool. :cool:

I like your eye for detail, Glen. It would be so easy in the process to forget about making the scales to allow for the Filly etch in the blade to be completely above the top scale line. You obviously were mindful of making sure the finished scales FEATURE the etch in a great way. Nice. Great color in that wood.

Yep you are exactly right, the Filly etch was so imortant to the maker that they off center drilled the pivot to lift it above the line.. So I used the top arc from the old scales when I made this pattern so it would do the same....
I use that a lot I have realized, I trace the top and bottome arcs from the old scales and work outward from there, using a solid base then free handing the rest...
