Bill Ellis re-scale in Jade Ghost + RC Allman custom

Chris send me a few customs to work on.

One is a Bill Ellis that got re-scaled in G10 Jade Ghost. Chris requested to keep the same design as the original scales but use stacked washers and a third pin. Dark transparent tapered wedge. Very nice 5/8, 1/4 hollow blade.

The second custom is from RC Allman. I had never heard or seen any of his work but it's an impressive blade. The blade still had the belt sander grind marks and satin look so I got asked to mirror polish the blade. It took me several hours to do so but now the wife can use it as a make-up mirror. The blade was the only work done on the razor. It came with very nicely done scales, torx screws and tapered wedge. 8/8, near full wedge.

Amazing work as always. That RC Allman blade is quite the looker! The thumb/finger notches seem like they'd be interesting to shave with. How does the razor feel in the hand?

Yes, how does the allman feel in the hand? I dig the thumb notch work on that. I can't imagine it leaving the shop still having belt marks, but they sent it to the right fellow to sort it out, both look fabulous. that jade ghost is always so stunning. Livi should see this thread and send all his blades to you for scales!! :D

Awsome as always Max! I'm hooked on that Jade Ghost thanks to you :). Sad to say but the twin to that Allman custom was set to be mine but it's life was cut short during finishing.......so I had to decide on a different one, and boy did I pick a good one! 8/8's Full hollow.

Now to hammer out some scales......yup......Jade Ghost G10 should be just fine. BTW Max, your thought on how to pull the brass off a set of DD Goldedge scales.......

Phill, very good choice on that blade. Bob Allman makes really great stuff. I've seen many of the customs: RW, Livi, Chandler, Earl, Ellis,... and the Allman sure has his own style just like all the other custom makers have their own style.

You should be able to kick some nice looking scales based on the curves of that razor,

As to the bolsters and inlay from that DD. Acetone is your friend. Soak and see the plastic melt. Watch out for the acetone fumes. It's a nasty smell. :)

Any thoughts on the scale shape Max, my mind is not doing me so well right now.......:shrug: Never had to do scales for a blade like this!

OCD Razors are Fine Shavers

Just a quick message about Bob Allman and his razors. Bob is a first class guy. He is not a big talker but his work speaks for itself. I had the pleasure of hanging out with him making razors from start to finish. I have two custom razors that he allowed me to design and pretty much build with his guidance.

These two razors are the best shavers I own and have shaved with Henckels, Dovo, Zowada, W&B, Puma, DD, and many others. These 2 razors take a better edge and hold that edge better than any above mentioned razors. No expert here, just my opinion and maybe a little bias.

Beautiful razors max... I really like what you've done with that Ellis, (is it just me or is that one of his more understated blades... I love that by the way). The RC Allman blade doesn't do anything for me, but it looks really good. different strokes I guess....

Great work Max!

That Ellis is one of his 'hybrid' razors. In other words he had some blank razors (that someone elsemanufactured) and he re-ground them to his high standards and put his usual flare on the edge. I have one and it is one of my best shavers. Mine is like this one but has the rolling file work along the entire spine, not just the middle.

Excellent scales as usual Max.
