Default Genco - Family Heirloom Restore in Curly Nara

So this one is family in a round about way
A little after my Brother in Law got into shaving with a straight razor he was given this razor, a Genco 5/8 full hollow Round point, which belonged to his Great Grandfather... So guess where he sent it for restoration ???

The scales as you can see above were shot, so I asked him what we were going to go with, bringing up a Red Lava acrylic option, met with a slightly less than enthusiastic Hmmmmm
So we decided on a reddish wood, and I picked the Curly Nara I had used in the past... With the grain and dark swirls in the figure it resembled the original celluloids... I pulled and reformed the old bolsters and fitted them on the new scales which are finished with 7 coats of Tru-Oil...The wedge is made from Ebony.
I had done a full polish on the blade, going from 80 grit Greaseless through Chrome polishing compound on the buffers, resulting in a near perfect mirror...
I am really thinking of shooting a honing video on this razor as Don/Colorado wants some pics of me fixing this one up, so I figured I could do a "How to Hone" vid and kill two birds with one stone so to speak...

Great looking family Heirloom Glen. Those Genco razors are really take a great edge and are wonderful shavers. Congrats, should earn some serious points with the in-law's with that one.

Bootiful Glen ! Really kept the original feel with the red Nara.

Great work as always Glen! The wooden scales really suit that razor..!

I'd be very keen to see a honing video, I can always use the pointers from the pros!

Looks beautiful. Did justice to the original razor, looking forward to the honing vid too.

Default Now that's what I'm talkin about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Wow!

I got home a little after 9 p.m. Colorado time last night and razor wasn't posted yet. So this morning after walking the dog and removing the snow I got on SRP hoping to see what Glen did to my Great Grandfathers razor.

It is everything I could imagine and then some. It is so special to have a razor past down from one generation to the next and then compound that with having it restored by your brother-in-law. Talk about keeping it in the family.

Glen, great job as always but this time it is extra special to me.

    Thanks
    Don

Ok, I have to add to this post.

I am sending a link of this thread to my father and my grandfather. I can't wait to here their reactions. I can only imagine where this might take my grandfather in his mind. And my father has been asking me what Glen has done to this razor every time I talk with him. Now he can see it for himself.

I think the video of honing this razor would be awesome. I'm still having Glen do my razors though. It would be another piece I can put with the razor when I pass it along. (If anyone in my family is reading this I want you to know that's not happening for a loooooooooooooong time)

Now that I have seen it I can't wait to shave with it. I feel like it's Christmas in February and Christmas day is soon to arrive.
