    Default Sorry Butch

I got a L.R. Harner to make new scales for it - sorry Butch
With the original scales was nothing wrong. Like the whole razor, they where from a outstanding good quality. The problem was, the razor was a birthday gift for my customer and he dont liked the "modern" style of the handle. He perfered some "old school" shaped scales.

I made them from desert ironwood and hope, I did the fantastic blade justice. Once again Butch, it was the first time I hold a razor from you in my hands, and they are much more better done, than I saw on the photos. Very great craftmenship

That Harner is a sexy razor. I think you could dress her in a set of rough tree branches, and she'd still look great! Nice job on the scales, BTW. A far cry from rough tree branches!

I'll take the extra set of scales no problem.

I think you did it justice, but if I owned it, I'd keep the original scales with it. They're part of it's history.
My only experience of Butch's work is one of his blanks. Even they show that his work is of an exceptionally high standard!
At the end of the day the owner now has his perfect combination, so nice work all round.

    nice work and no worries
so long as the owner is happy that is the point

as was said i would hold on to the Ti scales and if even sold sell as a set (show and go set )

The Ti scales will go also back to the owner. He is a collector and user of custom straights and want them with the razor. Because of the adjustable pivots from both scales, now it is easy to change to the scales, the owner prefer.
Btw Butch, I saw a similar blade from you at classicshaving. com descriped as: Stiff Hollow Ground
What exactlly you mean with this?

Beautiful work from both craftsmen. Interesting how the razor is complimented by both classical & modern scales.

some blades i will grind with the 2 inch wheel to grind a bit of mass off the blade but leave the blade a hair thicker so it has less flex

i have also used a 2 inch wheel to grind blades that are more like shavign with foil (all but singing blade)

that way you can get the balance of the razor how you want and the look or feel of a light or stiff action on the edge
