Wonderedge 11/16 in Desert Ironwood
started off pretty rough, the scales were warped, and starting to chip/crack near pivot on one of them. So, I was asked to rescale in desert ironwood.
I wasn't asked to transfer the inlays..but..not doing so would just be a tragedy IMO so I did it anyways ;)
I tried something new... I did about 15 layers of CA, relatively thick layers, and I tried to fully encapsulate the inlays in the finish. The result was good and bad. the good part--- they will never come off. EVER. They are totally covered by CA. my plan did work. That said, it created small valleys in the CA around the inlays, and it made it really hard to get in there and sand it down, and difficult to buff up. so, I ended up having a few finish imperfections here and there around the inlays. I think it turned out good overall, and I wouldn't be opposed to doing it again in this manner. It was mostly the perfectionist in me that was slightly dissatisfied. It took a lot of time though, that is for sure!
used all brass hardware, including some brass tubing to replace the boring black plastic tubing for the 3rd pin.
I ended up making a new wedge, and used carbon fiber..don't ask me why, it was just the first scrap of black stuff I found on the bench ;)
