Hi again all,
Heres another rescale and tidy up, a 5/8 Le Grelot 'Royal Canada'. When i found it the scales were broken and the tang and spine had some aggressive rust. Fortunately the gold wash was only lightly speckled.
Left alot of crud on the face of the blade to avoid removing the wash.
I hand sanded it with respect to all the original markings, so there is a fair amount of rough stuff left, but at least its shiny rough stuff now ;-)
Scales are a marbled white plastic with somewhat of a Mother-Of-Pearl look to it (except without the beautiful irridescent refraction of course). They work surprisingly well with the feel of this blade IMO.
Wedge is the original black plastic one from the old scales, I had intended to go brass but decided to retain some element of the old scales.
First pic is a before shot.
The camera really brings out all the flaws, looking at it in person its much cleaner.
Thanks for all the positive feedback from my IXL thread.
Cheers!
