Here are a few pics of my very first restore :) A Russain Razor from about the 1920's..not sure exactly what make though..my russian friend couldn't make out the writing on the box. Anyhow, polished it up and clothed in acryllic with brass pins and nickel washers. Learned alot for my next one :) Any comments good or constructive would be appreciated :) And I would like to send out a huge thank you to all who posted in the wiki etc. that helped so much!
That looks really, really good.
mostly personal preference..but..next time, use a contrasting wedge..black acrylic wedge on this one really woulda popped!

Are those scales made from the acryllic pen blanks you can get at Lee Valley? I was wondering whether those blanks were big enough to use, some of the wood they have for them is interesting to me. I think you did an excellent job on the blade, it mirroriffic.
lol...yes RobertH that is exactly what they are...they are JUST big enough depending on the razor and how much "end" you want past the blade. I just wish they had more color selection...I do have one of the orange "cracked ice" blanks sitting at home too just waiting for the right blade to come to me...lol. I have a nice amboyna burl blank from them at home too :) Their wood blanks are actually about an inch longer than the acryllics so you'd have more than enough :tuQuote:

Nice, job! I would call it a custom, though! IMO, I agree about the contrasting wedge and, while lots use them, those big washers kindof look like ...big washers! maybe some with smaller OD would be nicer? But hey, thats just my opinion.I bet it's rock solid, though ! I wonder if brass washers this size would not be better as well. Looks like you worked long and hard to peen them! You asked! Agreed! The scales are wonderful! Are they homemade? And how, because that is really impressive. I agree in making the wedge in a contrast color material.

Yes, the scales were done by me using an acrylic pen blank. This was my first and I've done a few since and have been using contrasting wedges ever since :)Quote:

This is Moshtamp razor (Мосштамп), made in USSR in Moscow. If you see double digit number on a tang -that's a manufacturing year.
