Looking for Info Lord Stanley Razor
I think this razor dates from 1888-1890 what makes this such a great razor is the etching on the blade tons of detail.... the top of it in the center has a crown and on each side of that crown are 2 flags one I believe is the Great Britain flag under that has the name LORD STANLEY in like a banner with other details around it... under that is an etching of LORD STANLEY from his chest up. under that again in great detail says Governor General of Canada... Well if anyone can tell me if these could be bought by anyone or was given to family ect... maybe a value anything would help.. I bought this for my hockey collection although I do collect other history pieces as well... I am not sure if the pictures will show up if not send an email and I can send some
Lord Stanley Wade & Butcher Sheffield Razor
I think the Lord Stanley on your razor may be the same Stanley--an American journalist--of African exploration fame.
The razor was probably a commemorative by W&B to cash in on his fame for opening the Congo to colonization by the European powers and locating the European missionary Dr. Livingston, who had seemingly disappeared at the time.
Perhaps he was appointed Governor General of Canada later.
