Got Bored
I got a little bored last night and decided to play around with a Genco I bought that didn't come with scales. I kinda like the Japanese fixed blade straights so I thought I would try to make one. Here's the result. The handle is made from Bocote wood and finished with a few layers of clear acrylic.

Interesting save, how does it shave for a regular straight shaver??

Cool. Its got a nice flow to it.

Great job! Did you cut off the tail or leave it as is?

I left the blade as is. I made a pocket for the tang and tail. Then, after fitting the blade, I filled in the rest of the pocket with epoxy. I didn't want to pin the handle in place so I figured the epoxy would hold the blade in. Glade y'all like it.

Looks nice, hows it handle when shaving?

I plan to hone it this evening and then shave test it.

Just a little update, this has got to be one of my best shaves yet. I love the way it feels in my hand and it cuts like a hot knife through butter. Even my brand new Dovo doesn't shave as nice as this little gem.

Nice Work!! These fixed blade straights are seemingly coming into favor. I wonder how the thickness of the handle near the tang and the weight effects manuverability? I suppose it is like anything else and take little to be used to it. Very Cool!
