First Razor from my Workshop

Hi All,
This is the first razor i have made. It is inspired by the Japanese style, but is my own design. It is hollow on one side, convex on the other, with file cut jimping for grip and made from Swedish RWL34 steel. The box is felt lined silky oak with brass hardware and a CA finish. It shaves well so i am happy for a first attempt. Do need to work on my photography, though.

The razor looks great. It looks like it would feel good in the hand. I would like to see more pictures.

thanks for the support. Still struggling with photography, but here are a couple more pics. Is there a sticky that gives help for photography newbies? If so, would someone point me to where it is please?

Great looking blade. The grip cuts look really cool.

Check to see if your camera has a macro function for taking close ups. It looks as if the camera is struggling to focus. You also prbably need more light.

I also have trouble with photographing razors. My photography background is entirely landscape photography, and I've found razors to be far more challenging than I expected. Here is a thread I started to get some pointers:

Razor looks great, especially for a first.

I think the two main issues with the photos are focus and exposure. It looks like the camera is focusing on the reflections, not the razor OR you are shooting too close and the camera is unable to focus at that range. The photos also look underexposed. The lightbox link above should help with that.

Nice looking razor, did you make the case as well?

yes - the case was a piece of silky oak. Cut it in half, traced the razor and carved out it's shape to a depth of the razor's thickness. Glued in some felt, put on a few layers of CA and brass hardware. All from odds and ends i had laying about.
