Ernst Schwartz "Hamburg Ring" in Ebony
This is a really, really nice razor!
I had no idea what a gem this was when I bought it-- nor did I realize it had terrible cell. rot that the eBay photos didn't show. Covered in rust and paper-thin, I didn't know if this one would make it. To try and save it, I spent several hours with emery compound instead of sanding or greaseless, and after a lot of buffing it turned out pretty darn well....
I put it in some minimalist modern scales-- ebony, matte finish, with a notch in the scales for your ring finger and pinky when you use the razor. Wedge is CA-coated bloodwood, and the pins are nickel-silver. Super-thin scales (1/16th thick) that have a fantastic, springy bow to them...
...this is 7/8ths, oblique point, ultra-hollow ground, and makes the most wonderful "ting" on the hones and the strop. Honed like a dream, and this is also quite positively the very best shaving razor I have ever used!
I apologize for the absence of before photos! I think this turned out pretty well for a "surprise" of a project.
