Two in Mahogany

Picked up some rusted blades- a Fenney "Tally Ho" & a Louis & Meir "Manufactured for America". Both in this condition:

I love building furniture, but this "little" first-time project has taught me something. You guys that do this for money deserve every penny you charge. :D

Hand sanded to 2000 & buffed; I left the battle scars. I like character. Mahogany scales with poly and lacquer, brass hardware.

I like the shape of those scales, they are traditional and classy. The blades look like they are well cared for yet still show there age and use. I think you made a good choice, balancing between leaving the pits and cleaning up the blades.

Out of curiosity, have they been honed yet?
Just asking as the Tally Ho looks like it has quite a big bevel. Will a bevel like that take an edge like the shorter bevels normaly seen?
Or is just my eyes:confused:

The Meir has, it shaves really well. The Tally Ho hasn't been honed. You're eyesights not off, it's got a honking bevel working on it. Part of that may be because it's really close to a true wedge, so it's going to have more of a "bevel" than one would get with a hollow ground. (I do have that right don't I? A true wedge would have "100% bevel" from spine to edge?) Anyway, I'm going to see if I can double-tape it and use the technique Glen outlines in his video to get a decent edge on it. If I can't get it to test decently by 1K, I'll send it to someone with some patience. :)

I really like the way they came out. Love the character on the blades, and the shape too. The wood scales sets them up really nice.
