1st custom attempt, 6/8 in G10

About a month ago I decided I would try to make a razor.
So I bought a couple pieces of steel, build a grinder and went to work.
Everything was done "in-house" I figured I might as well attempt doing everything thing. An while the pics show the bumps and bruises I'm still happy it came out looking something like a razor, an even better it actually shaves.
I attempted to us a tool rest for the hollow grinding but gave up on that pretty quick, end up just feel handing it.
I learn a lot and there is a ton of room for improvement but it was fun and should make the next one a little easier.
While a lot of designs popped in an out of my head I kept with the K.I.S.S. theory (Keep It Simple Stupid)
1095 steel
6/8 french point, jade green scales with red flake acrylic wedge. Silver pins and SS washers

WOW! that is a super looking razor. I like the lines. Your grinding looks very good. I wish my first ones one have come out that good. If your first one is this good I can not wait to see the ones that will follow.

Thanks, the grind came out better then I thought it might.
To be honest it was all "eye-balled". I didn't mark a centerline, so I just went with it. Like I said there is plenty of things that could be better.

MileMarker, you are now in the game. I wish I could become a razorsmith!

Considering what the steel looked like before you got done with it...

That's a nice razor. I wonder how he shaves?

Man, you did great on the grind, especially with not marking center. Don't do what I did when honing my first razor and not use tape on the spine. there will be a bit of steel to remove and there is no need to work the spine over that much until you get the bevel right with tape...then you can consider honing it without tape.

Again, very nice on a FIRST razor!! You should be pleased. I look forward to hearing about the first shave with it...

I did tape the spine when I honed. I figured it would take a little time to set the bevel.

I honed and test shaved it before the OP. The shave was good but I'm going to go back to the finisher for a few more laps. I'm sure I pulled off a little earlier then I should have...couldn't wait to test it out.

Now to finish razors 2 & 3 and see if I learned anything.

After reading your post, before I scrolled down I didnt expect it to look anywhere near as good as it does (no offence). Its awesome, I'd be SO pleased with myself if I made something like that from the raw materials. Great work mate :tu:tu
