Custom Red Oak Scales
I have two Dovo 5/8 Best Quality razors. They both provide nice shaves, but I was a bit disappointed to have two that looked identical, so I decided to make my own scales for one of them.
I knew that since I have never done anything like this before that they wouldn't look great; I just wanted something that looked a little better than black plastic and was functional. I am happy with the results, all things considered.

I actually like having more heft to the scales. And it isn't the prettiest razor (far from it, in fact), but I love it nonetheless.

Your happy, thats all that counts. I think they look quite cool. Well done.

Not everyone has a full workshop with all the tools necessary, not everyone has the practice/history working in a workshop. One of the things I like about this site is the fact that it is not a competition (If it wer I surely wouldn't be winning anything). Every single piece in this gallery becomes an expression of the craftsman's skill, imagination, and (most important) desire to to put more of themselves into this little hobby we like to indulge ourselves in.
Sorry, I trailed off a bit there, back to the thread at hand...
I surely hope that razor is functional for you because this fat redwood style reminds me of a prop you'd find at something like Country Bear Jamboree. Or maybe a razor that would be used by the guy in a bluegrass band that plays the wash board or jug (and drinks a lot from it). Just get this country clutter/old timey feel from it.

If the scales are holding the razor blade, it's a success. Congrats on a job completed and with your own hands.

The important thing is that you are happy. I bet you had fun making them also. It's always nice to shave with a blade that has your own special touch to it.
Cheers! :beer2:

Custom is all about individuality. If youre happy with them then thats the main thing :) And the fact that you did them yourself makes them very personal. Congrats.

Congratulations on a job well done.
