Semogue 2000 in African Blackwood
My Semogue 2000, arguably my first brush ever, was beginning to fall apart near the knot. Having just gained tons of experience with hardwoods and a lathe, I found this unacceptable. I first contacted Bruno @ VintageScent.com and he kindly offered to have the broken in knot rehandled, but decided to take matters into my own hands.
I chose African Blackwood (dalbergia melanoxylon) because of it's hardness, stability, moisture resistance, and I have several blocks of it just laying around. Hand turned, finished to 3000 grit, Tripoli, then carnauba wax.
It turned out quite good and I'm now planning to make a few for my closest friends who are recent converts to straight razor shaving. I'll post them here as they happen.
