Oh man, I wish I hadn't seen this thread. The last thing I did before reading this assess my very own, precisely similar W&B, and plan out how I was going to work it. Mine looks way better in the before pics, but I have a dreary feeling it will look far worse in the after pics. Great job, and thanks for giving us something to aspire to.
I can only imagine how much knowledgeable work went into it. Fine, Fine job!
Maximilian...beautiful work on the regrind. Would it be possible for you to post pictures of your grinding set up? I can't visualize your 10" wheel spinning away at 3450 rpms and you getting such accuracy. What durometer wheel and what grit sandpaper are you using. Thanks for the info.
Here's my setup. It's a belt grinder. Not a stone grinder or buffer. You also need to use a very low speed when working on a hardened piece of steel as not to lose the original temper. Hence why a variable speed is so useful to have. Wheels are 70 durometer and grits depend the application and end result.
Looks like new! Fantastic work Max!
As always Max, simply top notch !!!!!!
Holy c**p Max :dropjaw:,
If you didn't have the "before" & "After" shots, I wouldn've believed that this was the same razor. What a restore :tu. Beautiful to the Max :bow
Obie jan: May this W&B give you a lifetime of wonderful shaves :tu. Congratulations my friend
Please pardon me for being a bit late to the party.
Max, It is wonderful to see a reconstruction of an old razor that actually has distinct curves,"lines," and angles which are visible to the observer. What you have accomplished here is a goal that we all should strive for. A razor that looks like a razor and is not a melted shadow of one! The scales are modern and not at all out of place. Had they the same materials, back in the day, they would have used them.
Thank you!
Respectfully
~Richard
Max, absolutely awesome work! We all bow to the master...
Obie, you should have some wonderful shaves, please do this justice and post your first shave with this in SOTD!
by the way, are you going to change your signature line and join the max club?
