....I got his razor done today! I think I need to remake the wedge though. It isn't quite right yet. Black G-10 with toxic green liners and wedge. Stainless pins and stacked washers. I think I need to practice pinning more. It is my first time working with g10 and first lined set of scales. I call it Cosmic Cut. The diminishing circles of the pattern remind me of planets. There are seven of them, but the pictures kind of don't show it very well. I need to take some in my light box.
Wedge and detail of scale pattern. You can see that the blade centers perfectly, but the wedge isn't right. The side isn't flat/straight on the left side of the wedge.

Dang, I got caught! lol. Glad you like it. I'm a little upset still with the wedge, but I don't know if my second attempt would be any better. I really really really need to get a belt sander. It would have made the wedge process a whole heck of a lot easier.
Also to any newer makers out there that are still making spacers rather than wedges, it really does work better to at least try to make a wedge rather than spacers. The outward bow of the scales more than makes it worth it!
so are ya gonna make a new wedge or reshape that one to lose the gap??

I'm actually looking at that right now. I'm thinking that I will probably reshape this one, as it's already shaped to the scales. It would only take removing less than a millimeter from the pivot side of the back of the wedge and it would work perfectly. I have to sleep on it, and sweat for a bit about depinning it, but I just don't think I can send it to you with it looking like it does. I'm not sending it to without me being happy with it, because I want you excited when you see it. Plus, it just looks amateurish.Quote:

+1 on the frustration of getting the wedge just right medicevans.
It is one thing that I have struggled with, too.
Using microfasteners to mock up prior to pinning has helped me get the finish just right.
I'll have to research lined scales - they look great.

Thanks Havachat45. I appreciate the compliments. I still have to radius the edges of the scales, but I'm doing that by hand so I don't mess them up. Fix the wedge and repin and we're ready to go!
Lined scales aren't too bad. I used 5 minute epoxy to glue them up. Should have used 10 minute, because by the time you get the first scale done and just right, the epoxy is almost too gooey to use on the second scale.
I am going to make another set like this except with red liners and wedge for a Frederick's Celebrated I have. It should look great.
Ok gents! Got it done finally!! Between work and family and everything else, it took entirely too long. Brian/Paco was waaaayyy too patient. Regardless, it's finally finished. Hopefully it meets with his standards.
Hint to any new builders, when working with G-10, get a single cut file and run your wedges over it before you pin them. It makes the edges completely flat and really works well.
Here's the updated pictures. Only posted pictures of the wedge end. Everything else stayed the same.
Ok, a couple more to show the side detail a little better. Sorry the pics suck so badly, but it's late and I'm not making a lightbox.
The finished product looks great. Well worth the extra time, nice and tight.

The only suggestion I would make would be to consider using a translucent liner for future projects using cutouts.

Pauly, thanks for the suggestion. It wasn't the look I was going for on this razor. I'm not opposed to the acrylic, but this razor was a foray into G-10 and liners.
I'd like to start using acrylic for some stuff, but I don't know where to get it, especially some of the really neat types that some people seem to use.

Not a criticism, just saw the cutout and thought it would work with something translucent as well as the bright green G10. I am genuinely impressed by what you've done.
The clear acrylic spacer in the scales str8raz0r did for me on this fellow http://straightrazorpalace.com/custo...nica-horn.html was donated from an old clipboard.
I have 200µm PSA backed clear acrylic for making liners, but I too would like to know where some of these really funky acrylics come from, I can find them as pen turning blanks, but but as a sheet material.Quote:

Pauly, absolutely no offense taken! If I can find it, I may end up making something similar from acrylic. I hadn't worked in G-10 very much so I wanted to try a little more difficult project.
Thanks for the comment on the circles Paddy. I wanted to do a ribbon of green the length of the scales, but I don't have a jewelers saw, and my scroll saw just wouldn't do it, so I went to the drill press and made do. It turned out nice I think.
