Kudu Horn 8/8 Wade & Butcher
This 8/8 Wade and Butcher was found by the owner all rusted up. He cleaned it up, finding some nice steel. He also had some custom scales in Kudu horn that used to be on a different blade, and thought the horn would look nice on the new find. The scales shape did not match the WB, and sent to me to see about massaging to fit.
I like lemonade, so took the lemons and challenge. There are before pics below to give a feel for the start. The graph paper shows the outline, and you may get a sense why tail is a little narrower than would have done from scratch. The wedge also had to be creatively fit so rear would not contact blade when closed.
They were bolted together before. Although pivot pin hole area was cut away, the wedge side had oversized holes not centered straight to each other. Due to this, I filled them with colored epoxy and redrilled. The washers mostly hide that now.
So here are the specs. 8/8 Wade and Butcher hollow ground barbers use. Brass sleeved the pivot. Kudo horn scales, bison bone wedge. Triple washers of brass-stainless-brass and nickel rod. Polished with Micromesh and buffed.
The horn is beautiful. The white has a creamy look to it that is very elegant, that just hints at the brown streaking through it.
More before and after pics here, in high resolution, if wanted.
