Cleaned up Union Razor Cutlery Co. GA

I picked this up at the flea market recently for 10 bucks. It was pretty rusty and spotted and somewhat pitted. Sadly I forgot to take before pics, but it was basically just a funky razor. Spent the last few days sanding it smooth very carefully, up to 3000 grit, then took it to work and used my handpiece and bristle brush to polish it with diamond paste, then buffed it with a cotton wheel in the handpiece until it was nice and shiny. Worked the scales over too. I think it came out nicely for my first light "restoration."

I can't give you any tips, I haven't restored anything yet, but that thing looks sweet!

Thank you gentlemen. I'm pleased with it as my first attempt. I'm sending it off for honing today. Can't wait to shave with it. I'm not much if a judge, since I'm still new to this, but I'm really looking forward to it!

I'll tell you what, it certainly looks a whole lot better than my Union Cutlery razor, which coincidentially was my first resto as well. Mine sure made a sweet shaver as well, and I suspect yours will be the same. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, I sanded it very carefully and methodically by hand. I tried starting with 180 grit, but that wasn't getting the rust, so I ended up going down to 80 (I think) and working up from there. Lot of
work, but it came out well in the end.

Very nice work!! I wish all my razors looked as good.

The finish on the blade and scales looks great, well done.

I got this back from being honed on Monday. Very sharp! I've shaved with it three times since, and wow what a beauty! She sings just from a thumb pad test and the whiskers just fall away. I have a really tough beard, and it's gone just as smoothly as can be. I've only been straight shaving for a few months now, but I had my best shave ever in my life from this blade last night! I love it!
