Frederick Reynolds, I thought I was done. LOL

Got this old dog off ebay. It was worse than I hoped but better than I feared.

This is my first attempt to rebuild a messed up blade. I cleaned up the rust as best I could so as not to mess up the etch. Then I stacked 4 layers of tape on the spine and took it out to my old Norton Tri-Hone and started making it lighter.

At that point I set it aside for a few weeks. I was talking to a fellow forum member, TopCat, that lives close by and he said he had new set of Naniwa stones that he hadn't used yet. As my old stones are basically junk compared to his, we got together yesterday and I started trying to figure out how to use REALLY COOL stones to set bevels and hone. HOLY COW! I'm impressed! I set bevels and honed a Clauss and a Challenge. Those went really smooth, then I dug out the old FR and got busy on it. I thought I had it where I wanted it till I got home and put the loupe on the front and saw that I'd missed getting the toe like I wanted. I'll get back together with Dale in the near future and finish her off right.

Those old Sheffields can take the neglect, but give them a proper honing and there aint much better.

That's a mighty perty wee bevel you put on that blade. 4 layers of tape the whole way through?

Yes Sir, four layers from the start, except for when I started to set the bevel using TopCat's 1K Chosera. I ran it a bit with three layers and decided I was going to be there too long, so I cut another one and went back to four. Worked out pretty nice I think.
