My first restore and honing 6/8 Genco Old Dutch

The first 3 images are after hand sanding and honing and the last 2 are when I got it. I left the tang with a satin like finish while the blade is mirrored. I was really surprised at how the blade turned out after hand sanding, but I made the mistake of getting to big headed when I was done and dropped it and took a big chip out of the edge. It took some work to fix it, but turned out ok. Still not as shave ready as I'd like, but doing some touch up before each shave to slowly progress instead of just trying to do it all in one shot. I really didn't need too much work till I dropped it.

That looks great man! I have a couple razors id like to restore also, I was wondering what are the steps you take to get a blade like that back to a mirror finish. Is it just progressively finer steps of sanding?

Since this was my first restore and it didn't need to much I went with grits 400, 600, 1000, 1500, and then some mother's polish I could have used 2000 and 2500 before polish, but didn't think that it needed it.

Yea hand sand and then polish. I was really surprised at how it turned out.
