I'm not sure how hot is too hot. If the metal changes color it.s probably too hot. If you put water on to cool it and it hisses, that may have been too hot.

Lol, ok. Thank you very much, I'm happy with the results so far. I'm not quite done either, still have a little more to do. The compound im using is called "Dico Buffing Compound: Emery". The have a few other grades such as Tripoli and Jewler's Rouge, I think Emery is their coarsest. I would lilke to try some of the finer grades.
