Custom Blade from old Sheffield file

This is a blade I just finished using a very Old Sheffield file, The file was a monster a 1/4 inch thick and 1 1/2 inches wide I was inspired by our very own Grant AKA baldy, the razor spec's are as follows, 8/8 french point full true wedge. I will probably use the razor as a Kamisori type, It's a fair old lump of steel weighing 2 1/2 oz, I placed it along side one of my 6/8 so you can get a scale for the razor.

How do Tom, I haven't yet shaved with the razor, but there's no reason other than getting use to the size and weight as to why she shouldn't shave very well, this blade was more of an exercise rather than a razor I wanted for myself, still I learn't quite a lot from this.

It is amazing seeing what an old possibly discarded file can be reborn as! Beautiful job.

That looks great...I like the simple elegance of it all. My only thought would be if the stabilizer at the heel is going to come into play when honing.

Amazing work for a file. I am amazed at the talent some folks have.

I shown the wife... even she loves it but some of tje first words out of her mouth... 'dont even think about asking for a price' lol.

Hi Tom you will find a lot of information on this forum, but you can pick up a lot of good info from the British blades forum and knife making workshop, but even after saying that I think you may need a good level of practical skill as well.

Sweet Blade, Jamie! If I may, from my own personal experience, wonder about that stabilizer. You might consider getting the bottom of it gone before honing it.
I also wonder what it would look like scaled. Nice Work! :chapeau

Very nice. Was it forged or stock removal ? I would think it would have had to be tempered and annealed or visa versa ? I would like it more if you had curved the monkey tail and scaled it. Probably because I am not into the kamisori thing at all. I also would like to see custom makers, pro or beginning, get away from meat choppers. It seems to be the default of all custom guys to do 7/8 to 9/8. Give me a 6/8 over a meat chopper any day. Beautiful job though. :tu

I would agree with your reply, I would say the razor is a little on the large side for my liking, and my ideal razor would be 13/16 full hollow grind, but this project was more of a learning curve rather than a necessity, and if I were to make anther I would definitely down scale the razor, and make changes to the design.
