This one wasn't to be unpinned but just a general clean up.
I had my heart in my throat trying to sand out the pitting on the back of the blade. These things tend to be quite thin and I could only push it so far. But it polished up just fine. As you can see someone tried their hand at a bit of sanding. Even though they don't look all that deep,, they were a bit of a bugger to get out.
The gold was basically intact , scratches and some wear here and there but nothing was to be lost. But there was an odd coating over it and actually had a brush hair imbedded in the finish. Well I stripped the finish, repainted the lettering and ducks and did 3 coats of a preservative ( also on the script on the scale as these tarnish in a week) and the gold now has a nice brilliance to it. Not much I can do for the scratches in the gold though.
And since I had it here I took a shot with my two. Sort of a family reunion.
