7/8 Luxury custom in thuya burl

Hi everyone!

Here is my newest custom, I like this one the most of those I have made so far. This is the second occasion I used thuya burl, but after the first try I was certain that I need to use a liner or something to reinforce this wood. My wood of choice was african blackwood, being the second most dense wood in the world, and also very hard. Very stable, very oily and resinous, I thought this will make a very nice reinforcement to the burl, and it came out really nice indeed.

The blade is 7/8" in size, scales are made from thuya burl and african blackwood with SS washers and nickel-silver pins. This is my first filework on a razor, I hope you like it! http://badgerandblade.com/vb/images/.../001_smile.gif This one took me a long time to make, but I really like the outcome, this won't be my last I am sure.

Thats a great looking blade. I really like the spine work and the Burl matches the blade perfectly.

The file work look very nice! But the scales are amazing somewhat like a leopard fur!

Very nicely done. I love the way the filework seems to replicate the burl in the wood. You should be patting yourself on the back after this functional piece of art!

The sahve test was yesterday, this razor was really hard to put down :)

Super work on the scales, and that spine is excellent! My own tastes would have the heel a little rounded.
What kind of steel is it?

I am sorry, I forgot to write it down. This is made from O1 too, at about 61-62HRC. I want to make some more razors from this steel just to get the hang of it, but I have some super semi-stainless waiting to try. It should behave much like O1 with very fine grain, but much less prone to rust and patina. We will see how it turns out :)
