Big Bad Battle Axe Custom

A few weeks ago I posted a razor named Quasimoto with a cracked blade. This is the one I was practicing for

It is a triple spiked hunchback with a 1/8 grind...10/8's at the narrowest part of the sway. She has somewhat of a primitive finish with a few battle scars for good luck

Scales are tri-colored ox horn with a faux ivory wedge. I left the scales a little thick to help balance this monster.

She'll be on her way to Ark. in a few days. Good luck TB...I ain't shaving with her!

That's quite a razor!! I had to get my styptic pencil out to just look at it. :D

Well, it sounded good, but that's a nice piece of work!!! Congrats Tyler for getting it and Bob for making it!! Let us know how it shaves.

Well bob called me yesterday with terrible news he told me the razor had a crack which sadden me, things happen but I'm ire bob ad I will work something out

Sad, but it happens. Now it's just an interesting letter opener, I just hate it that Bob spent so much time on the finishing of the razor before finding it...THAT's frustrating.

Here's the update, excuse the tears. :cry::boohoo::rant:On Quasimoto, I thought I had damaged the razor when I let it get banged in the grinder pretty hard and didn't notice the crack until later. Then the exact same crack appeared at the exact same time, while setting the bevel, on Tyler's razor. I now realize that after grinding the sway in the spine, I gave it a rough look by heating the spine with an oxy-acet torch with the edge sitting in water. this protected the edge but the razor as a whole was stressed. I should have tempered again or skipped the torch treatment. Any way, as soon as I started to hone, this took away enough metal to weaken the edge where it lost the tug of war to internal stress and cracked dead center abiut 1/4" deep.

I am still in Mourning, as I had a lot of time and money invested...but I got some lessons I won't soon forget.

That is one heck of a razor, I think if someone saw you shaving at the gym with that for example they would just be baffled, hahaha. very cool
