C-Mon Wedge with new gold wash
I am kicking myself now for not taking any "before" pics. I got too excited and dove right in.
But I can tell you that around the C on the tang had some pitting that is still there but lessened, deep/heavy dark black patina and a little bit of rust. There was still some gold wash around the pivot point.
I sanded the tang starting with 320 and progressed to 1200 before moving to micromesh. I was happy with the result and knew I was not going to get rid of all the pitting and imperfections. The diamond still had red paint but it didn't last I wanted to keep all the engraving.
Tapped off the parts I wanted to protect then cleaned it with dish soap, cider vinegar, more dish soap, and pure alcohol. It passed the "clean" tests so I was confident it was good to go. I electro plated it with nickel for about 5 minutes. When I was satisfied, I rinsed it and dried it and moved on to the gold. I kept it in the solution for what seemed like forever since I couldn't see the progress. I decided after maybe 5 minutes it was good to go and checked it...
To repaint the diamond red I borrowed some of the GF's red nail polish.
Here is what came out.
Please let me know what you thing, what I can improve on and any hints or tricks.
