I've been collecting Ed Pinaud and Barber bottles with the intention of putting them back into service.
Some of them are fine, some of them have a milky white residue on the inside that has proved impossible
to remove thus far. Believe me, I've tried everything to remove the "stains" to no avail.
Any hints or tips will be gratefully accepted and tried !!

not a bottle collector I'm afraid, but thats a fantastic idea. I'm sure this will have been tried already, but you know you can get fizzy tablets that are designed to clean dentures? Fill the bottles with filtered boiled water and drop the tablets in - works a charm for tea stains on china cups!
I dabbled with bottle collection for about fifteen minutes. (Found some in an building excavation). You can send them out to be "tumbled"? I think it is called. They put them in a tube with a rod in the center, copper shot inside and around the bottle. The they turn them on a ballmill type thingy. The copper very gently abrades and polishes the surface. Yes you can leave them in for too long. You can make your own using clippings from copper wire. Don't rember what kind of machine is used to make a homemade one. Look at some bottle collecting websites. I'll try to post a link or two later.
