Finally my overture from hone to face
Thankyou members for your patience through my learning curve, (Esp Oz). I feel I have found a method that works on my face with my blades. We recently read how I thought naniwa 10k made it harder for me due to it's hardness, and through poor technique concede that. Now however my hones are set. I have a naniwa 'Lobster' 1k 210 x 66 x 34 no base as my bevel stone. Another 'Lobster' brand (Naniwa) 4k (205 x 70 x 25) on a base. Then it gets weird. I bought a combo 1k/6k king clay based. Never used the 1k, but loved the smoothness of the 6k. Already in possession of a naniSS 8k and a SS10k I found, in hindsight that I was not getting the result after the 6k. Onimaru55 correctly made the obvious point of pressure and technique being more a problem than the stones. Never the less gentlemem, I bought an Icebear (King) 10k clay based stone....210x 76 x 25, luxurious stone as a finishing stone. Happiness at the result. I now understand softness of stone etc, but my shaves are smoother and honings less regular....isn't that the goal...?
Next I watched a video of Dr Matt and his 'nanocloth' where this cloth was impregnated with cbn or diamond spray, Crox. I bought a 3 x 3 balsa block and glued a synthetic chamois to one side and added Chromium Oxide to it's velour type surface. Matt said he used 100 stokes, I did 50, and looked under a magnifying loupe, sure was smooth and reflective. But after leather had a Dovo Bismarck feeling pretty darn good.
I was happy to pass on the 10k nani to a member, and I love the icebear. Call it a technique deficit or what. I am happy either way. If my wife finds my credit card statement I'm a dead man....lol. Cheers Bobski
