    Default Leather razor roll

    Hello Neighbours,

Just wondering if anyone has a leather roll for SR storage? I was thinking that I'd like to get a roll up leather storage for my SR's instead of having them in individual sheaths or just sitting on a shelf. It would be even better if I could get something local from a leather-worker that I could get personalised. Does anyone know anyone in Aus that know how to handle leather?

    Hope you're all well!

    Hello!

I would recommend not to store your razors in a leather roll. Leather contains more moisture than you might think and quickly stains/rusts your razor.

Thanks Kenny. That's interesting... why then would most single razor sheaths be made out of leather? Or do most people also not use those.

I wonder if putting a few moisture absorbing packets in the leather roll would help with the problem?

Leather absorbs moisture, yes, but proper maintenance of the razor (oiling the metal bits) prior to storage and a regular system of follow up will ensure the razors in the roll are safe. Also giving the leather a decent treatment of leather dressing will prevent as much moisture being absorbed. Something beeswax based would be my recommendation.
Knock your own up out of a bit of 'roo hide. You can sew the stuff with a regular machine (take it slow at first to see how your machine goes. Perhaps start it off by hand first.), and with some basic bits like brass grommets and a grommet setter, you can add a bit of lace to tie it all up to secure it. You don't even really need to do that. Keep it simple with a small slit and string a bit of lace through that.
Just a thought for you mate.

James, there are many rolls out there. Here's SRD : http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...y-stocked.html

What are you after, a seven day set ?
Would you consider a different kind of material like this ?

This simple Googly brings up scores of examples you could choose from. Why don't you design something
you like and then decide on material and then find someone to put it together.

I wouldn't suggest leather as the ideal storage. Over the years I've found tupperware & dessicant packs is best.
Dessicant packs destroyed a wooden box I used so consider that also if you have woodedn scales that may not be perfectly sealed.

Anyone with a handgun actually leave it in a leather holster all the time ?

I would ask if anyone who stores their carbon steel knives in a sheath has had any issues. I have a few carbon blade knives that are stored in the sheath. The blades are oiled and haven't had any issue with rust. Of course razors are much finer edged than a knife, but they also have the advantage of having that same edge protected from rubbing, and thus oil removal, along with the bulk of the blade. And again humidity varies from location to location. My location has a bit more than average humidity for the most part. Just my experience on the subject.

I have a Ka-Bar that never leaves it's leather sheath, except to check it twice a year, but the sheath has been oiled inside & out & the blade coated with RIG.
