Thank you Ed very much for that.
As Ed said, it would be worthwhile chatting to Os. I've heard that Os is the go to guy in the area, and people are very happy with his work.
Thanks Andrew, will do that.
No problem mick,
Os is a really helpful guy too, fire him off a PM and he will sort you out.
Cheers Ed just done that, i just got a little careless , only the second shave with that razor as well that will teach me i guess.
Yep under the running tap, think I will try the sponge option from now on. I usually wipe the blade on a dry towel to keep water out of the hinge pin as well.
Wipe on a
I was using running water but now use a wet face cloth, I then rinse that under running water. Would be entirely gross not to...
Has been a long time since I've posted, now I feel complete again.
Sorry that's a typo. I'm using my phone and not good at typing on it.
Ha, cheers Andrew.
These are My razors the Dorko on the right is the one I hit the tap with.Attachment 178624
This is my current set up,
Bengall on the left (can see where I dropped it and broke the scales) Es=Ex No. 4 on the right, Both very nice shavers.
RazoRock 888 shave soap, which did cause a bit of "burning" on my face at first but I have gotten used to it now and don't feel it anymore... Very nice soap though.
Random brush ($10 eBay job) was labeled as "best" badger hair but I couldn't tell you if it really is or not. Does the job wonderfully; I lather straight onto my face.
And Sorbolene for afterwards, I shave then shower, then whack the sorbolene on my face and shoulders as I tend to have dry skin.

Good stuff Andrew, I like the old razors as well, mine are FW Engels perfect temper 11/16 on the left , Henckels friordur 451 also 11/16 and Dorko 6/8 all are full hollow grinds and great shavers.
As has been pointed out my mate Oz is the one to talk to. I really wish that the Big Pond wasn't there as I'd really like to sit down with him and listen and learn. Hell if the Pond wasn't there my mates Mick, Oz and I could party down. :y
I've used the running water method for five years now and I've never banged a razor on a faucet. While it might just happen the next time I shave I doubt it as I try very hard to concentrate on Everything that I'm doing while I'm shaving. When I go to rinse the blade I'm really careful and watch very closely.
Just call it a lesson well learned. Incidents that have distinct visual memories are the ones that you tend to never forget!
Oz is a very generous bloke, I spent a couple of hours with him and learned a whole lot. He even lapped my Escher for me :D The Bengall in the picture above sustained some damage to the "rear" scale as you can see when I dropped it, I nearly cried as I'd put a fair bit of effort into restoring it. Left a nasty knick in the blade too :(
Some day I'll replace the scales with something nice, I'm thinking English Oak would be fitting seeing as its an English blade.
Yep your right cudarunner , just lost concentration for a minute, but it can be fixed and ive learnt a lesson from it. Had a hangover at the time ill blame that:D.
That sounds like a good plan for the scales i reckon, would look wicked. what age do you think that razor would be, i love the vintage stuff.
Well I'm not so sure of the age but I have noticed that some Bengalls have T.R. Cadman & Sons LTD whereas most do not have the LTD after. I can only assume that the LTD was a later addition as business practices became more complex with time, Australia has a very similar system to Britain.
Having said all that, Bengall ceased production in 1965 so it's at least 49 years old. I'd have a guess that this one may be 1950s. I've just sent an email to the British version of the ABR to see if they can tell me when they became an Ltd company. This will at least help us identify when they started stamping Ltd into their razors.
I've also read that they supplied 250,000 razors for the British Navy during WW2 so they could have easily ended up just about everywhere. After the war they exported between 80%-90% of their products to Australia, Japan, India and Poland. Which accounts for the saturation of them here in Oz.
