Went to a few looking for razors in western Sydney.

have seen some in the huge antique coffee shop up at Mt Vic I think it was (or that Katoomba area) when down in Bathurst visiting the outlaws
they had some over priced & decapitated Dorko's and other str8s & nice bits at Christmas
may be worth a ride
Thanks. Will go have a look.
Around my neck of the woods, here in the USA, I have checked antique shops and come up empty. But they are in continual flux with stuff coming in from time to time. So going back every so often might be fruitful. Also, if you don't see any razors ask them if they have any 'barber memorabilia.' Sometimes they keep razors under the counter rather than on display.
Persistence is my advice.
My advice is stay away from the shops near surfing beaches.
The thing with antique stores is they often think rusty old razors are worth more than they really are.
There was/is an antique store in Newtown that used to/does sell razors, often in good condition always at a premium price.
Then there is the one at Mittagong or Berrima. I can't remember exactly nor can I remember the names . Been years since anyone talked about them here.
An update,
Went to a vintage/antique shop and scored this

Now I think it's in a good condition, but have no idea what is it. Would be great if someone can identify it.
I also found this one but did not take it home

Would love if someone can tell me about both of them.
Nice, looks in excellent shape. Does it have any country of origin stamped on it?
Nope. Nothing. nada.
For barbers use is a fairly common term on Japanese razors, pretty sure they used silver steel. If it was from Germany, it would say so. I would get that to OZ asap. And clean your car...
The ES-EX is by CF Ern. They are good razors with hard steel. Don't know if Ern made a bad razor but a looks like a little toe wear on that one.
Don't know the one you bought but looks good.
Been looking all over the web but nothing. The ern was quarter hollow but a bit of wear so skipped.
Both worth getting if the price is right
here's some info about the Fox razor, http://straightrazorpalace.com/srpwi...Fox_Cutlery_Co.
Was at an antique fair a few weeks ago and was noticing nothing much of interest then I started t open up some drawers in some old furniture thing, lots of doorknobs, keys etc, but on the 2nd to last I found a drawer full of straights picked up at TI Spartacus. Sometimes you really have to dig.
Looks Japanese, with the sideways number stamp and scales.
Better close up photos of the tang stamps and the blade etch would help.
Nice find, the one you left behind also looks nice.
What? I have the rarest razor in the world? No one have ever heard of them before?
Beats the heck outta me. :gl:
BUT that etching looks similar to TI or a Revisor I have seen, can't find it now, could be a coincidence though. Maybe it is a private labelled blank, google-fu some 1072's on the site?
The etching looks like it says FEOX to me.
You may never find out. Close as I could see is a feon, has the e above the o like that. Japanese razor of high quality. Maybe this was from a smaller Japanese manufacturer trying to cash in on a well known brand.
Not a sure thing, but "For Barber's Use" was a common tang mark of NRK - Nirichi Razor and Knife - ie Tanifuji
Update. It cleaned up well over the weekend. How do I clean the gold etch? Any ideas?
With gold plated Gillette DEs the only thing I've seen recommended is Windex. Gold wash on straights is more fragile than that IMO. I believe anything you use to try and get rust or 'specks' out of the gold wash will strip the gold off with it. So learning to live with it, or losing part or all of it are the only alternatives I know.
