Very little to choose from in Australia
Christmas has passed, the boxing days sales in full swing, lots of money being spent by consumers. Now it's New years day, and I have a bit of cash left laying around, and I searched and searched Australian straight razor/shaving companies, looking for something perhaps a little cheaper, a bargain maybe. I thought I might pick up a nice 6/8 or 7/8 'something.' I looked 1st at Beard and Blade, formerly Shaver Hut. Of their entire stock of straight razors, they had 6 that were out of stock. Available, were 3 x 5/8 razors and 1 x 6/8. Their only 6/8 was a Dovo Grenadille at the non-cheap rate of $350.00. They had no sales of any kind and were sadly short of any stock. so they had a total of 4 razors for sale, pathetic. Same applied to the few other retailers in Australia. Mens Biz, was lacking hugely, and it's a shame for the Oz economy.
I found a bargain on - line though, from a company in Canada, where I picked up a Dovo 6/8 Bismarck for $119, meaning it arrived here for a delivered price of sub $200. The nearest thing was Beard and Blade who unfortunately were out of stock of the identical razor, and in any event it was $79 dollars more expensive plus postage, meaning another $10 on that. Very disappointing that retailers in Australia don't even pay lip service to customers here. I mean, why would you shop here? Poor range and bad prices. So there it is, If you are a straight razor person in Australia, wanting quality products, don't waste a keystroke, shop overseas if your want the best at the best prices....sad.
