Carl you can borrow mine if you like mate! My middle daughter is the model, but you don't need to see her, just the hat. Made it myself. One size fits most, and the bandanna (Shemagh) can double as a cravat ;) .

What did the hat say to the tie?
"You hang around here...I'll go on a head."
Maybe this would solve the problem for both hat and coat.

How about this one? Suitable for nervous and indecisive individuals.

Hats should either say Stetson or Resistol I would however consider a Larry Mahan too :)
Or, maybe Schafer. Small town, small shop, big reputation. About 12 miles from my home. Short video.

My sentiments exactly. Although I'm American, I must say that Akubra makes some great hats. The Campdraft is my personal favorite and it comes in gray as well to match Carl's gray jacket

Wasn't it Carl who recently referred to himself as a peasant? Lookin pretty upscale for a peasant at the moment, Carl :)
For more casual dress (i.e. the weekend, bouldering, pub crawling and such) I'd recommend this one:

This is ny winter hat, it contains me after 21 hours of being awake.Attachment 135979Attachment 135980
It has been darn cold in Melbourne so I had a chance to break it out. Am on a Schick quattro this week hence the stubble.
I've almost the same kind by Fjällräven. But in Australia, have i lost my mind? Now, get serious. Get a hold of yourself. Your head must be boiling, something i already suspected.
Reminds me when i was in Arab Emirates with the family. Now there was this damn big shopping mall with a downhill slope inside. There were also people throwing snow balls at each other. What the heck we thought, me and my son. We're masters in this, compared to those, let's get in and unleash hell.
Howevers, there were -5C (23 F) inside temp and they refused to let us in with our t-shirts without taking winter parkas they were offering for free so we refused. For a Finn it would be a blashemy and gayish to wear a winter parka at -5C.
is winter in Oz correct?? one must have Russian Ushanka.I wearhttp://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...ushanka001.jpg mine all winter long:)
Its all relative, bet you were baking outside. Melbourne weather is renowned for being changeable, and as it is right south it gets chilly in the winter, esp as I have come here from Karratha, top if western Australia, where it isn't really chilly ever, a bit fresh maybe but not chilly. When I am not in Karratha I live in Perth which is western Australia and had a good climate except for the really hot bits.
I came from the UK 6 and 4/8 years ago, the first winter didn't touch me, but the second one was unbearable, I guess I over acclimatised. Still feel cold In winter but it isn't so bad now.
Things are relative. I have a good mate/friend/ystävä (Finnish) who lived there (Melbourne) for almost 10 years, first working for Nokia and then got his own business. Then he came back here (that is a thing nobody still really understands) and got not-so-nice (although everything is relative) and overbearing wife. We call such creatures as cabin monsters.
There were many things he told about Australia but cold climate was never one of these.
I thought he already has one????

Melbourne winter can be extremely cold and yet only be around 1-2c, the problem is, we have high moisture levels compared to places that snow.
I have been to many places around the world with snow and sub zero temps and find it far more comfortable than a typical Melbourne winter.
I also have a friend from Finland living in Melbourne and she complains constantly how cold it gets here.
Things are relative and depends on the wind as well. For me, the 'cold' is something between -10 C (14 F) and -20 C (4 F) depending on a wind (and here in the coastline it always winds straight either from the north pole or Poland). And the 'hot' means something more than 20 C (68 F). At 25 C (77 F) i'll take my coat and leave...
That just made the label wrong, not the hat ;).

So... having read this thread there seem to be some keywords to take into consideration in choosing a hat for Carl.
~ grey. Australia. daughter. winter. warm. ~
I think this one fits the criteria nicely

Ahhh, Cobber, we all know that! Here's a '49 model for "fancy dress" ! I think Carl needs a proper hat for those special occasions!
Is it me? Or is Carl conspicuously absent from this thread? ;)

That bloke resembles Carl in a way too, don't you think?! Right sort of moustache and all...:)
Mick
I was not going to say, being the Gentleman which I am, but Yes! I think a dead-ringer!
A bit avante garde for me, but certainly a conversation starter:
