It also definitely feels and works like a high quality flashlight. Fortunately I have managed to not lose it in over a year. I keep it hidden from my wife.

I was looking at those same torches that CelticCrusader posted up. I wish I had have bought one now that I've seen his. Maybe after Xmas. :)

123a and other "odd" batteries are expensive. Anyone use the rechargeable one's? What can I say I use a straight and like proven stuff.
I am a real fan of 18650's 32t. I have two flashlight that use them now. They hold a charge for a LONG time, and I don't think you can even get them in anything but rechargeable. What's kind of cool about the 18650's is - in a pinch, on most lights today, you can throw in two 123's for every 18650 and that'll work just fine.
Someplace in the history of this thread, I posted on my wife's torch that uses 3 AA's. I freaking love the thing! LOVE lol - but one 18650 will hold as much power as 6 AA's... or so I have been told. In real life that means I can walk the dog on full power 6 times where she can only do so twice. Hence, the debate between long use vs. being able to get juice at any corer store.
Man... it's always a compromise.
Good luck!

John - my wife's on full power eats up the juice lol. Those 3 AA's just have to work like the dickens to produce the throw that thing produces. 2 hours on full power. If you use it on the lower settings it lasts quite a while - even if you shoot off the full power beam now and again. Of course it was designed to not be on full at all times so I figure it's a reasonable amount of time.
Mine with the single 18650 - as I said above - just keeps going and going. The battery itself was about $20 i think it was, but I couldn't be happier.
Thanks for the link, I will check it out.
I love flashlights also. I have tried many different ones. A zillion lumens for 10 minutes isn't very practical for most purposes.
I am a little leary of the new ones.
I work security and purchased a Skyray King for work. It uses 4, 18650 batteries at 3.7V nominal voltage each. Really like it. Attachment 188447Attachment 188448Attachment 188449
That is one big flashlight. How bright is that thing.
It's not that big, it's 5 1/4" long and 2" wide. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvQQ...ature=youtu.be
I use the 18650 rechargeable also.
The 18650 batteries that I have seem to last quite a long time, especially with the flashlights having efficient LED bulbs. I buy my batteries on ebay for about $10 for 4 of them plus chargers, and they are 3.7V 5500mah.
I am so glad I'm not the only one who's razor hobby has bled over into a flashlight hobby! (And now pocket knives too) I've been eyeballing the Fenix PD35 2014 edition the past couple weeks but trying to hold off on buying it in case they come out with a new model in the beginning of 2015
See, I'm just the opposite, I liked knives and flashlights way before I got into razors. Only been into straight razors and SR shaving for about 3 weeks or so, gotta say I really enjoy it thought. For so long I was used to using a new safety razor and being done in less than 5 min, this 20 min shave is a little different, but in a good way.
Flashlights, cigars, knives, straights... we are men!! Guns, cars, beautiful women lol!! It's all good!!
:)
I like that PD35. I almost got it. Then I thought I would get this in stead - T series - TX25C2 - EagleTac.com - but ultimately got a more pocketable light lol.
All I'll say is - these flashlight guys are brutal - they ALWAYS have better models in the pipes! Sigh. If you wait, you'll never buy (said the guy who doesn't want to be alone mad that he got a light and now noticed they got a better version - already!!).
I want to hear how things are going in a year :). There is room in your life for them all :).
Don't forget this flashlight, the SKyray 6x6, 6 Cee T6 LED's.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9GdQdXmwFY
I have a rechargeable Streamlight Stinger dual switch LED.
Best flashlight I have ever owned.
Here my wife has been killing me, making me feel like I am nuts having a weakness for flashlights and of course I should have known...some of you guys are nuts too! Gesh, there is a thread for everything isn't there....
Bump Time,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Wow...a year ago!
To stay true to the thread, tell me about lights that don't require odd batteries that won't cost a arm or leg...
I have always tried to stick with rechargeable in the past, but the price & now the competition provided by cheaper LED lights are the way to go for me now. In that case I always look for the AA lights & now "C" lights that I showed above. The LED's make the batteries last much longer than the bulbs that we grew up with.
I keep looking over the new variety of lights that flood Home Depot these days,,,, I then take a photo with my cell & review them at hoe,,, but there is also apps that will pull the product up by the bar code in the store & get your reviews there in the store.
USB ports etc. you can't go ten feet now a days without finding a place to recharge your light.
You might be able to buy 30 alkaline lights with batteries for the same price but when you go to use them the batteries will have leaked or are dead.
My wife just bought some candles that are medium size to me and burn for 48 hours......
Random new years eve thoughts.
Happy New Years to all.
I just picked up these two from Massdrop, cant wait till they get here:

Bump time....
Last week I bought an LED conversion bulb for 2 -6 cell flashlights. I played with it in an old maglight at work to try it out but thought that I needed an interesting light to put it in. I ran across an interesting 1952 Eveready that worked with working batteries in a shop for $1. The led bulb replacement cost around $9 and turned the old light into an interesting very usable tool. My camera is broke but the following link is to one that is green striped to my black....
Eveready Flashlight - 2 Cell Green/Silver Light with Narrow Boat Switch Light and NCC Logo on End - Model No. 2251 (c. 1952)
Now t o see how long the batteries last.....
Funny how the old 6-cells will work just as bright and even (much) brighter with 2 cells and a nice LED bulb. I look for someone to make a spacer to eliminate all those batteries but two (IF it is not already available). I have one of those 6 cell mag-lights as well as a 3 cell. The Mag-lite conversion bulbs work wonderfully, but much better is available.
I recently bought a really old 2-C cell with convex glass lens off Ebay. It took a screw-in bulb.
Bought this bad ass 18 dollar screw-in bulb from England and screwed it in. WOW! No way to focus it, but it lights up the WORLD!
A far cry from the old, dim, yellow days!
Remember the days when we had to keep whacking at the flashlight as the batteries got lower to get the connections going? ;)
No more that!
Even with rechargeable batteries, the newest stuff is perfect, FME.
While I shall never darken the door of the home depot, I assure you the bulbs they sell are a vast improvement on old flashlights with incandescent bulbs, no doubt. I got a few for another pair of vintage 2 C-cell ones for my wife and daughter there and they worked quite nice!
Now....MY 2 C-cell with the badassed English bulb is another story entirely!
I'll get some picks up tonight of the flashlight I bought last week to attach to my Mossberg Cotton Candy Dispenser. I was a bit shocked by the clarity & brightness of the light,,, great price & bought at Home Depot.

I have a couple of coast flashlights that have treated me well. One is on my desk right now that I carried for a couple of years and lost it during a fall camping trip. I returned in the spring when the grass was low and found it in the area where I thought it was. I pushed the switch and was back in business like nothing ever happened!

Finally bit the bullet and got an LED light. Yeah, I know, what took me so long. Well, I suppose I was waiting for one from the future...

One incredibly bright LED light in a tiny, functional package. Several light modes with turbo hitting 1,000 lumens. Charge remaining indicator in on/off switch (3 color codes), LED charge indicator on end of magnetic, flat ribbon USB charge cable, etc. Hit up Amazon for more details and other larger models available. :)
Edit — Here’s a comprehensive review https://theflashlightguy.wordpress.c...ton-ii-review/
This post reminds me of a scene in the X files series where Fox is talking about flashlights (which played a big part in the show) with the Assistant Director and they were admiring each others flashlights and discussing who had the bigger flashlight.
I will stick to my throw away lights. 3 to 8 bucks and they last for 5 years. But that is a fancy and spendy flashlight Mark.
For me, the light is certainly fancy but fairly inexpensive — I simply skip some fast food or dine-in lunches, and it’s “paid for” in my book. Between that and the fact I’ve wanted one of these gadgets since forever is all the rationale I require.
Tell you what though, I will be singing another tune should I lose this tiny sucker. :)

My new to me 1920s Eveready. Cleaned up corrosion, put in new insulation, now it is working fine. I put in rechargeable batteries, and a warm white led bulb.
I am more excited about a flashlight than a grown man should be :)
Yes, I know this thread is older than the hills.
You should be excited Charlie.
The older stuff is made way better and is much cooler than what's out there today.
Enjoy!

Here are a couple that are waiting on my shelf for led's etc.
