Great idea Tim..
Something to lift, and separate the carbs..
:tu
Remember the Opel GT with that bump on the hood? Or how about the supercharger sticking through the hood? Somehow I don't think that would work as well sticking out the side. You'll figure out something awesome though Im sure Mike. :tu
I wonder if you could do some kind of routed tube setupwith a ram air breather. That sounds cool!
Before I can complete the throttle linkage, and peddle, I need to complete the firewall.
Last really tricky metal fab work on the project!
So start with cardboard to avoid too much math on a Sunday.
Attachment 337217
Transfer to steel and rough shape it.
Attachment 337218
Apply some judicious stretching and shrinking to get it close to true.
Attachment 337219
Realize at this point I will benefit from some additional subframe pieces to frame the tranny for the subsequent covers, as well as provide more support for the floor panels , but that will wait for another day.
Also there will be a second layer to this cover which will house the throttle linkage across its upper section laterally.
Still plodding on, between fall family fun, and Movember activities.
Cheers men.
My new compressor started acting up, basically the pressure switch got sticky and wouldn’t always release. They are sending me a new unit! Good customer service that.
Slow fussy progress on the toe plate firewall tie in. But oohhh it’s beginning to take shape.

Can see where the new cowl will connect to the new cross brace straddling the front of the transmission. And I have everything cleco'd together to get it right. Each cleco’s location will be replaced with 1/4-20 bolts later.
Attachment 337372
And this upper piece will have the throttle linkage traverse it laterally and be spot welded to the lower cowl so the whole thing can be bolted in or removed down the road as one piece, if/when required.
Have like 50 hrs into something that nobody but me will give a damn about, or even see once the carpets down lol.. but this project was always about the journey as well as the destination..
:chapeau
I wouldn't say, "nobody," Mike. Brass tacks, what I do all day is take mechanisms apart and service and or repair them. I see people's... "unorthodox engineering" a lot and often it is a :gaah: moment but sometimes I look at it and say, "Wow! That's ingenious." I can sympathize with your MO though. The 100+ year old mortise locks I work on I don't really make any money on but I don't do that for the customer. I do that for me. Also, I don't rig things because I always try to think of the next guy. I figure that if I do my job correctly and am fortunate then maybe I will be the next guy.
Finished stretching and fitting the firewall tie in, tough to roll a flange in a curve with out a bunch of creases. Stretcher is the only tool short of a boat load of dolly work to achieve this joint.
Attachment 337510
And added my throttle linkage
Attachment 337511
Welded the two pieces together
Attachment 337512
And can just about call this done!
Still need to connect the linkage, but that can be later.
Attachment 337513
Think I can go over the hardware again, but am ready to move on to firewall insulation, then Wiring!!!
Hey Mike, I just can't deal with those old MG side-drafts and talked a couple of guys into letting me install a downdraft kit.
Manifold and 2V Weber carb. Ran great and easy-tuning. Electric choke on them if you want.
No hood issues with that...Check into it. I bought the kits from Victoria British.
An idea.
An interesting idea Tom.
Was considering going to Mikuni’s and staying side draft, as they ar small enough to fit.
Will check out the downdraft kits. Moss bought Victoria Motors so it’s one big national now though.
Thanks buddy. Will still be wanting one of those red ignition boxes if you are so inclined, regardless of carb design I settled on.
:tu.
You got it. Just let me know.
So the kit looks like this. Again, something to think about.
