Outstanding!
And posted on post #2000. Its been a long and exciting thread. Thanks for doing it, Mike! She looks great.
Hit any cruise nights / car shows yet ? Looks Good ! Plus it feels good, when people ask ….did you buy it, or do all the work yourself.
Very important!
What was the wifes verdict?
Looks fantastic by the way!
Pete <:-}
No cruise nights yet. But I’m going to attend one soon I hope.
Wife says I done good! Took to long but made the car better than she thought it would be after rebuild.
Not happy when I said I’m not quite done, referring to the 5 spd upgrade next winter, but that a ways off of being for sure anyway..
Adjusted the needle on the speedo and am closer to true. Now only 15 km’s off at speed.
Also reconnected the vac advance to the distributor wanting to see if I could crisp it up a wee bit more on acceleration and yes boy, she did.
Had to lower the idle speed again after, but she pulls great now. Like better than she ever did before in third and fourth.
She drips 2 or 3 drops from the pan, or breather, not sure which, every park, so I’m just about ready to make a pan to go under the entire engine. Drop it to a low spot I can drain now and then and be done with it.
I love the car, and my driveway. Hehe.
The car is just marking its spot in the driveway.
And the other cars are just jelous that they haven't been able to use the garage.
A lovely run down one of my favorite roads in the area.
Sorry for the wind noise.

Cheers gents, have a great start to the week!
A California stop in Canada? Now Ive seen it all.:rofl2:
Droneboy! So those Brookland screens are fun, eh? I have a few extra windshield frames for my car.
They come off with 5 nuts.
Thought about cutting one to the bottom and mounting some of those. Could swap them out.
Perhaps someday..
I always liked the one on the old #55. I think I am too slow for that, though! :rofl2:

That’s not the drone, my daughter took that from her balcony before joining me for a rip!
Attachment 343310
And I love the screens more than expected. I thought they looked cool, but really like the improvements in air stream effect when they are on as well.
That is a gorgeous sunbeam Tom. Is that one in Texas too?
That's the Doan Spencer Hollywood Sports Car Tiger. Tore some ass everywhere for a few seasons.
It's still around vintage show/race. This sound will demonstrate!

Oh that’s a wonderful crackle ain’t it. Specially at the end when he revs it a wee.
I need to toss a piece of tape over the GoPro mic for the next run I film. Need to kill the wind but not the engine and exhaust tone.
I’d like to figure a way to use the drone as well for some drive bys and the like.
Maybe fiddle around next vacation with it.
I’m no film editor so it better be easy and quick or screw it.
Hehe
Had to take the grill back off to install an enameled badge, but I think it was worth the couple hours..

British bling added.

The RAC cloisonné, indicating the car is in the Royal Auto Club, believe they still have the one Prince Philip was given in 50.
St Christopher. Patron saint of travelers. Covers the ‘act of god clause’ along the road.
It says ”Behold St Christopher and go your way in safety” around the outer edge.

And this one to indicate where she was made.
All in all, fits the car, and the style.
Cheers gents, crazy storms up here tonight.
I love that RAC badge. Of course it wouldn't be worth actually joining the RAC, I doubt you could from Canada actually.
The RAC and AA are the British versions of the CAA (AAA in the US).
See I love this forum, as I thought the RAC was literally that. The cars in the Royal fleet received that banner.
Now I know, and still like the badge but won’t prove igerrent as to what the badge means. :)
Thanks Steve

Ohhh, isn’t that precious…

Thanks Tom..
Must have now….
Can't tell you much, Mike, but I sure can spend your money!
Attachment 343370
And they call me an' Enabler'----hehehe
Attachment 343371
Ain’t that the truth Roy, and I prolly don’t need the help, hehe.
But you’ve been a lot more than just a spend consultant Tom, and I appreciate the help you’ve offered along the rebuild.
You and everyone else as well. Kept me goin at a couple points, and had me maintain my own high standards a couple times, when I was tempted to shortcut. I just knew you’d call me on it, like you lads did!
So Mike - I'm not that good with cars, please bear with me. These badges must represent car clubs I think? Or are they just cool looking and are classified as eye candy?
Car clubs have their own badges yes, and I think it was very popular back when to sport their badge on either the bar or grill of your ride.
In my case, they are eye candy and a nod to nostalgia, as I’m not a member of any clubs.
Always had a St Christoper medallion on the visor of my car since my nasty wreck, and since Noddy doesn’t have visors, thought that one was needed. The mg one is more car specific than club and the RAC, that one I just liked the look of, very British.
So how is the break pedal nowadays? Have you a high-hard one or is it still a little spongy?
Brakes are good, disks bedded in and levels holding true. Solid feel, and full brakes at mid pedal travel.
Hay with them fir sure.
Had a call with the last owner last night to let them know the cars back on the road.
Filled him in on all the work done and mentioned I was pulling the engine again next winter for the 5 spd and was thinking of having the engine overhauled at that time.
He shared that the engine work done in the 70s was not just the tr3 swap, it was the tr3 2.0l engine was bored out to accommodate tr4 pistons, and the head was shaved to increase compression with a tr4 performance cam by crane installed, and that is why she seems so torquey at the low end..
All done by some performance shop in Toronto.
So it actually is a 2.2 liter now and highly modified already.
What a frankencar she is now, and I love her. Definitely 1 of a kind and probably one of the quicker of her breed still on the road. Think the supercharged originals still only put out 95hp..
:tu
How many miles on the engine since the rebuild in the 70"s?
From your description I would not be in a hurry to touch it if it doesn't have issues.
It is good to know the history.
I have a 1948 Indian motorcycle that I got from my cousin after my uncle passed away. A freind of my uncle told me that he used Studabaker truck pistons in it for a rebuild. I did a lot of work on it but I am not going to touch the engine unless I have to!
I would estimate less than 30k since rebuild and the only engine issues are the stray drips. Can deal with them without digging into her while the tranny is out but based on his story last night, I don’t intend to do anything invasive now.
Was a nice conversation.
Oil drips have never bothered me. I will say an oil leak is much more than a drip!
I have read how the police know drug houses by the oil stains one the street.
I noticed the other day the oil stains at the local Walgreens drive through. (the local pharmacy.)
But they have been really slow lately and for one customer I idled over 10 minutes waiting!
Its hot and I am old with enough money to afford it.
It took me around 37 minutes to get ahead of 5 cars I didn't idle the whole time.
I have ben resisting but am leaning towards mail order drugs.
You do what you gotta do :tu
Canada has some great online dispensaries now,, I read somewhere.
:w
I get all mine mailed directly to the house. Mucho Gooder that way. But the last 3 orders I've come up 1 script. short, and have to call them on it.
Got the garage working again.
Wasn’t the capacitor but a broken wire pinched between the track itself and the ceiling loft connected to the close limit that was faulty. Splice repair and installed the Bluetooth control and now the garage responds to Alexa, as well as the original switches.
Also was able to create the ‘routine’ in Alexa where if I’m leaving, it will verify the door is closed, and when coming home open it for 45 seconds when I am coming up the driveway automatically. Knows all this from my cell phone location.
Will see if I like that feature as I’m not always going into the garage when I come home and may switch that off..
Today looks good for a longer rip after the yard work, pool cleaning, and ongoing tool reorganization..
Have a productive Saturday gents. Only so many in the summer to enjoy!
Cheers.
I order all mine from Costco Online Pharmacy in Vaughan Ontario. They're cheaper, the filling fee is much less and they come in about two days. I can't get my insulin by mail though obviously because it couldn't be kept cold, I buy Basagla which is a cheaper alternative to Lantus locally for $90 a box (5 x 300 unit vials).
I think my wife gets all her drugs through Costco online. Mail order stuff. And it's 3 months at a time. I don't use such a thing as I'm not on a regiment of drugs. YET!
I believe I found the, or one of these oil sources.Attachment 343386
Bolt on left was installed in the front right corner of the pan. Note it isn’t threaded full length.
It looked like it bottomed out before drawing the pan fully tight.
Replaced it with the one on right, now time to test her out.
Fingers crossed, but there may be more like that..
cheers.
Better, but not completely oil free yet.
Going to drop the pan one more time and check all the bolts, might be a couple more like that.
Degrease everything and hopefully one more go with non hardening sealant this time and we will be sealed..
:tu
Well, glad I dropped the pan. The new cork gasket had two creases in it from the shrink wrap being kinda tight over time I guess, as installed. Well didn’t it spit at those two points once installed,,,,, :banghead: never noticed with the sealant hiding the split in position on car.
New pan gasket from local auto store on order as that last one was in the Amazon mail and now can’t be returned as it was ordered like two years ago..
Will still be applying a light film of non hardening gasket sealant but light torque as the specs are like 30 inch/lbs.
Leave her up in the air till the goods arrive. Raining the next few days anyway.
Cheers gents.
