New Acquisition
With a new job and move a couple of hours south I've been on hiatus lately. Picked up a 1974 Chevy K10 last weekend, 4WD, manual transmission, 350 small block Chevy. I had a 1980 2WD inline 6 cylinder 20 years ago in high school and liked it. It took awhile but I found what I was looking for. Really wanted a manual transmission, 4WD with a 350 since a lot of parts are interchangeable with my Camaro. Also was wanted something that wasn't 100% perfect since it will be a work truck. Its fun to drive and definitely worth the 16 hours of driving time to get it home.

That's a sweet lookin truck. I'd baby that as much as a Ferrari.
-
You can never go wrong with an old square body.
-
The body is, but the frame looks good. Was expecting a lot of scale but it is clean.
-
My thing is Ford pickups but that period between 70 & 80 was a golden age for pickup trucks. I assume that's a 3 speed granny low 350 small block. You can't go wrong with that. Ford, Chevy, Dodge, they all are good and they all are bad. At the end of the day it is a matter of personal preference. Good for you. I'd love to have an old truck like it...F150 of course but...you know
-
I'm a Ford guy myself, but that was a hard Chevy to beat, in its day. You'll notice that the the fwd pumpkin is off set more, and the axles are different widths. Great for off road work.
Nice grab.!
-
I really like the F-150s of that era also. I was contemplating going that route, but the deciding factor was that I already have lots of sbc parts around.
-
From that perspective that's a smart choice. You couldn't really go that route very easily with Ford in that period. Ford did not make things interchangeable as much as Chevy did in the old days. We used to say if ford had a "better idea" I wonder why they didn't use it. especially if you're more familiar with Chevys that's a good choice. I've always had Fords and so I can tear one down and put it back together in my sleep. You may be the same way with Chevy
-
The saying around here was, anybody can put a Chevy together, but you have to build a Ford.
-
I had a 79 F150 shortbed for a few years
9" rear, Dana 44 Front New Process 205 Transfer Case C6 Auto
300 six then changed to 302
33x12.50 Mud tires 6" lift (30" to the rockers)
Man you could go anywhere with that thing, it rode just as well across a plowed field as it did on the road
8 miles per gallon and 11 gallon tank
Sure was fun though :)

There is some but the frame is in surprising good shape. I was expecting a lot of scale but there is very little for a truck of its age. The guy I got it from said it sat for years, so I think that has something to do with it.
-
I'm getting there with chevys, plus accumulating lots of parts.

I was with my dad when he bought a brand new Chevy 3/4 ton Custom Cab '75 fleetside 4X4 with the four speed, heavy duty brakes and rear suspension, twin fuel tanks and power steering. No Air or power windows.
It had 2 miles on the speedo--yup 2 miles as it had just been dropped off at the dealership.
He paid $5000 plus tax and license for it and I followed him home.
Dad gave it to my youngest brother after he'd bought a new Ford 2X Ranger not long before he passed away 20+ years ago and he's trashed it. :banghead:

I'm a Dodge square body guy, but always good to see ANY square body pickup.
