Home Bar: what's in yours?

What do you keep in your home bar? Here are my favs:
bourbon: bulliet frontier whisky, jim beam for mixing
Rum: Appleton Estate X/O, Mount Gay for mixing
Tequila: Sauza Commemorativo, Sauza gold for mixing
Scotch: It varies on the sipping end:D Dewars for mixing
Brandy: This varies a bunch here it is now though: Ural Alsbach, 2 Calvados's (always have some on hand), Cardinal Mendoza solera reserve, some home made pear brandy.
Vodka: Level, Vox and awe hell it all tastes the same to me...
Gin: Bombay Sapphire
various liquors: Frangelico, Tuaca (the BEST stuff for winter flasking:tu ), Creme de cacao, creme de menthe.
Odd stuff: I have a bottle of Gusano De Oro Mescal:eek: have at your own risk.

I'm more of a wine guy, so am always well stocked with Oregon Pinot Noir and Bordeaux. I keep a few harder things around like 10 Cane Rum, Calvados, Hennessy XO Cognac, Woodford Bourbon, Grand Marnier, and Cachaca, which is like tequila but from Brazil and used to make caipirhinas.

I keep Crown Royal for Canadian wiskey, Balvenie for single malt Scotch, Maker's Mark for Bourbon, Captian Morgan for spiced rum, Hennessey for Cognac, Grand Mariner for my wife and Everclear sweeting my pipes.

Nothing too fancy. The BW picks her own tequila and mixers. I like to have a fairly decent gin around for martinis--last couple of bottles have been Bombay. The one booze thing I'm particular about, besides beer, is bourbon--I like to keep Knob Creek in stock.

Oddball stuff: a bottle of feni the BW brought me from a stall in Goa. Made from cashew fruits. Deceptively clear and innocent-looking. Think of tequila's outlaw cousin.

I'm a simple man.

A keg of Yuengling lager on tap at 35F and some clean pint glasses.

I have rums, Laphroaig and Oban, various burbons and whiskeys and even a few others but most of the time, a cold pint (with descent head) is my gig.

Leinenkugel's a completely new (to me) discovery that I find to be awesome. I currently can only find Sunset Wheat. I don't know how to describe it because I haven't really gotten into the terminology, but it has a really smooth flavor and finish that is strongly reminiscent of blueberries even though it has no blueberry flavoring artifical or otherwise that I can determine. Corriander? I dunno. I like it.

(The rest of the stuff in my bar is unmentioned because its not things I really drink, its for my wife or guests.)

Anyway, for me, life is too short to drink cheap beer.

i am but a simple man. pint of jack. nothing more, nothing less. works great for road trips(once i get there), not in the view of the kiddos(keeps SWMBO happy), tag-a-longs for parties, easy to replace.

Don as with you and your razors I like a variety. Fina Estampa, Casa Noble, JCRF [Jose Cuervo Reserva De Familia], El Jimador Añejo, Don Julio 1942, El Lano, and the ultimate for me is Heredurra Selection Suprema [for special occasions only]. I have others that I like but these always have been good to me.

I'm pretty simple, too. I've got a bottle of Knob Creek bourbon, and my wife has a bottle of rum of some kind for her hot cocoa in the winter. My wife buys a bottle of wine now and again. Other than that, I stick to an IPA of some sort. With all the talk of single malts, though, I'm itching to buy a bottle of Laphroaig.

I noticed you too have a taste for Pyrat rum! I also noticed it seems you own 3 bottles currently..

Well, I've been in love with the stuff since this Christmas when all the NC liquor stores started stocking it FOR CHRISTMAS ONLY. Ever since my local store ran out, I've been scouring all of them, as it is indeed not on the state list an can only be purchased during christmas, possibly never again after this year.

Well Last week I found a lonely new liquor store in Fletcher, NC and the had one case of this great stuff left. (6 bottles).

Long story short, I mad the plunge into inequity and bought an entire case :D...

My girlfriend thinks I'm a little nuts, but when in limited supply, I'm not above hording the finer things in life!

I like Don Julio and Patron, but my tequila list is not as diverse as yours, looks like an interesting collection.

My bar is covered with coffee equipment.

I stock some vodka for my wife (usually Stoli) and have some brandy and rum on hand, but I'm a dirty martini drinker, so it's gin for me. I've tried them all, from Bombay Sapphire to Boodles to Tanqueray to Plymouth. I've settled on Gordon's. Not because it's much cheaper than the primos (which I don't mind at all), but because it seems to make as good a dirty martini as any of them.

I always have a bottle or two of Plymouth Gin. It's the best and most versatile gin for my money.

My brother and father live in Green Point, Brooklyn, NY, which is a very Polish neighbourhood. As such, I always have an array of vodkas from the land that invented vodka (or at least has a reasonable claim as such). Pan Tadeusz is a Rye Vodka that I enjoy a lot. Luksosowa is a potato vodka that you can find in some places for dirt cheap (and it's very tasty). The corner stone is DeBowa Polska Oak vodka. Yes, vodka flavoured with oak. It's tasty, trust me. Being from Eastern European stock myself, vodka is to be drank ice cold on the rocks with no mixers and all of the above are great straight-up vodkas. All for less than that French vodka, and tastier too. That's not surprising since, well, what do the French know about vodka?

I also usually have a bottle of dark rum, although I have no favorite or regular choice.

Lastly, a bottle of Cladestine Charlotte Suisse Absinthe. Mighty tasty, that stuff. I sort of want to give a try to some other Swiss absinthes. (The Bohemian ones I've had that are more common taste pretty nasty.)

A bottle of Belvedere, a single malt, a bourbon (Gentlemen Jack right now), a red, a white, a tawny port, amaretto, a Patron tequila and a few liquors for cooking, or a nip of schnapps.

Since the kids came I haven't been drinkin much....

One bottle of Vodka. Thats all I need. I really quit drinking about 14 years ago. So when I do drink, I drink vodka with nothing mixed in. :p LOL

I have been wanting to get a bottle of Absinthe, however the only watered down crap we here in the US can get is just that. CRAP!:cen Anyone know where you can score some of the good overseas stuff and not have customs nab it?

You might ask wojtec76 if he can get you some from poland:hmmm: If you haven't ever tried the stuff before, I will say my experience with it wasn't too great. Mild hallucinations but the hangover was the killer and I wasn't prone to getting hung over at the time...Mail order is about a 50/50 chance it will get nabbed. You can get a domestic variety of absinthe in the states that is made with wormwood but I think they remove the thujone which is where the "fun" is at...

My bar is a little limited right now. Gotta save the money for other things. That being said, I have a bottle of Sauza Gold Tequila, Cointreau, and Presidente brandy. You can guess what I like to do with all those:D

Alpha-thujone can have an effect on GABA receptors and cause some perception problems, but to get those levels, even on high thujone "absinthe" you'd be in the hospital for alcohol poisoning first. The appeal for the Belle Epoche artists was that it was a smooth, cheap strong drink. I know it's less romantic to think that Van Gogh and Latrec were just lushes, but that seems to be more true.

Lucid has no thujone (also, a horrible flavor) but the Kubler has a small amount (these are the two absinthes available in the US, there's also some absentes, which is something different). The actual law is, I think, 10ppm, which most Western European absinthes fall under (and most pre-ban absinthes as well), but the perception of illegality is such that customs officers treat all absinth as illegal.

My friends have all had very good luck ordering online. Not me of course, don't want to anger the customs people.

I have read that the absinthe of old might have also contained some heavy metals (copper based?) that contributed to the side effects of consumption. I believe my experience was entirely a "way to drunk" one. I have known others to have similar experiences while abusing tequila! Good information Blockhead! Thanks for clarifying.:tu

Yeh, I'm not allowed to drink tequila anymore. And if I do, I warn the people I'm with what they're in for after consumption. Things can get kinda crazy...

My home "bar" stanks. Mostly just the standard stuff. I only really drink beer or wine at home, so I don't really stock anything good, although I'd love to get into some good rums. Mmmmm....I love rum!

Anything I don't like to drink - that tends to stay around for years. I think bunch of tequilas, some liquour, peach schnapps, kahlua, amarula.... The stuff I like (cognac, whiskey, bourbon, jin....) doesn't stay for too long :)

Glad to be of help. I had AAD for a short while, you could say. RAD is healthier (and less of a legal grey area).

The cannabinoid thing is an internet myth. Someone looked at the chemical structures of alpha-thujone and THC and decided they looked similar, so they must work similar. Only one study has been done that's on a research science level and that's the one that taught me about the GABA receptors.

Heavy metals in old absinthes is conjecture, but a reasonable one. There was nothing resembling an FDA back then, especially in Europe.

Hmm... maybe it's time for another bottle...
