Finer Things - Corsets

A couple of years ago, not long after we started dating, I took my girlfriend to Fairy Goth Mother as she wanted to try on a corset, having never worn one before. I know the folks at FGM and they were wonderful in explaining things to her and helping her try things on. She walked out of the store with 3 of them, plus 2 skirts and a a couple of other things. I won't say I've got her addicted but she has quite the collection now, from a number of different places.

If you're into the burlesque/glamour style of lingerie, I can highly recommend Kiss Me Deadly, which is owned and run by one of my best friends (yep, blatant plug folks) who make gorgeous 50's/40's style retro lingerie. Makes a great companion to quality corsets.

Here's a couple of shots of my own corseted waistcoat, it's a custom one-off by Velda Lauda, one of the UK's top corsetierres. Laces for shape rather than restriction, and to emphasise the male figure. Matches my Jed Phoenix pinstripe suit/frock coat perfectly.

I found this thread quite by accident, but noticed this...

My wife had back surgery in Feb 2009, a discectomy for ruptured S1 and bulging L5 and L4. She is still having severe sciatic pain and leg numbness due to the lower back muscles are still extremely tightend up nearly 5 months later even with daily use of muscle relaxants.

I was wondering if a corset might help with my wife's back pain. I'm going to see if she will ask the surgeon about it, but he doesn't seem concerned about the continuing pain and numbness since she is in less pain than before the surgery and tells her that it could be a year or two before they know for certain if it is ever going to go away.

If there's a chance that a corset could help reduce the muscle inflammation and bring her some relief, then I am willing to pony up for one or more.

Not only will a corset help but a nice garter belt and lace top stockings have been known to reduce swelling in the hibernator discoidal rotator. However be sure to monitor for swelling elsewhere.

On a more serious note and to answer kreigle's post. A corset would not help with the inflammation and long term use could lead to muscle weakening. But it would provide support and help give your wife a break. According to a Chiropractor friend of mine most common back injuries are due to bad posture.

I know this is not the same in your case and I have been lucky enough not to need surgery with my back. I would advise you to get more professional advice but IMHO it would be of benefit in the here and now.

You can also get surgical corsets, so that is another avenue to explore. Do a search to find out more information and to get pointed in the right direction.
