My missus can get hers on by herself, but it takes a while. When I help it goes right quick :D Her's are just the easy lace ones though. I can't imagine the ones you actually have to tie up.
I like corsets, but I REALLY like them when paired with garters and leggings. Mmmmm, yummy!
Sorry for not replying sooner, but I'm on vacation (visiting my sweetie), and there have been much more exciting things to do than read the forum.
Corsets: as a seamstress and on-again-off-again Rennie, I have a certain appreciation for corsets and stays. I can't do leather or PVC (sweat isn't sexy), so the garments I make are usually cotton and/or silk. For those of you talking about easy access, making it difficult is part of the point! Instead of having my clothes ripped off in a few moments, I have the power to slow things down a bit, and make my partner focus on foreplay while I unlace.
Stockings: seamed, Cuban heel, black or nude, with ankle-strap pumps. Yes, please. This is my new favorite garter belt... plenty of straps (4 just isn't enough), metal snaps (which tend to be more sturdy than plastic ones), shaped to fit over the hips (instead of around the hips like the belts designed purely for decoration), and it's still black satin, which is very sexy.
Kilts: my sweetie is a UtiliKilts man. 'Nuff said. :D

I don't find the Leather ones too bad with sweating, it's lined in cotton drill which helps. PVC on the other hand can be a nightmare, especially if you're planning on wearing it for a few hours.:cry:Quote:

I currently have 2 pairs of cowboy boots (Boulet and Silver Rebel) which I got in Canada 2 years ago and love to death. A pair of plain black suede over knees with a roll top so you can go for the pirate look too. And a pair of ankle boots with buckles and flat studs which goes really well with the Corset.

However back on point I was intrigued by the use of the word, 'stays' i heard that word as a kid used by my great aunt who had them, we pronounced it differently...more like 'stiiiys' heavy on the i's.Just chiming in.

My first "corset" was actually a pair of stays made as part of my 1770s costume when I was a tour guide at Noah Webster's birthplace. Since then, most of the boned undergarments I've made have been closer to stays than to corsets in that they've been designed more for support and posture than for shaping.Quote:

So I just wanted to ask the ladies and Spike: Besides the appeal, what is the actual "function" and/or benefits of a corset? Is it just to make one's shape a little more shapely for a short period of time? Do people wear them for extended periods? Do you wear them daily? etc. Anything you feel like throwing in to educate us on the use of corsets will be welcomed. Seriously I'm not looking for "well, they're sexy" but I think you probably got the point there lol.
I only wear corsets occasionally, usually under historical costumes (for Renfaires and the like). There are women who wear them every day, and there are also women who do "corset training," meaning they use corsets to drastically change the shape of their bodies over time. Corset training can adjust the position of ribs and organs when done for long periods of time.Quote:

The second reason I wear mine is when my back plays up, old injury. So when I can't move around properly due to lower back pain I strap myself in which gives me a good posture and doesn't aggrivate the injury. Wearing a corset makes you think differently about how you move. You have to think about how to sit down, you can no longer bend at the waist so it's all down to your hips and knees.
The longest I've managed to wear one for is about 5 1/2 hours, I don't know if that is good, bad or average! LOL
