It gets my by. We are getting ready to start our 2008 Christmas swag give away on Home-Barista. There are some killer give always and discounts. Our sponsors really offered up some nice stuff this year.
Nice! ...but you don't appear to have an Aeropress :). According to their writeup you'd throw all those away. Their "indepth description" didn't sound real scientific to me and "Adler's best-known invention is the Aerobie flying ring which set the Guinness World record for the world's farthest throw (1,333 feet)."
I'd love to hear your opinion of the Aeropress.
Last month I picked up one of these
Wholelattelove.com: Gaggia: Gaggia Coffee de Luxe: Espresso Machines: Semi-Automatic Espresso Machines
My old cheapo-espresso machine finally decided to die and I felt as if I had to replace it with something with a bit more quality. It sure makes a nice extraction. It's worth the dough.
Nowadays when I drink regular drip brewed coffee, I realize that I love my Gaggia even more. Believe it or not, I find that I can usually taste the bleached paper filter.
I enjoy really strong, unfiltered coffee. It just sets my day right.I basically stopped drinking coffee outside the home because I find myself not feeling satisfied when finishing a cup.
I have yet to begin home roasting. One of my friends in Florida is into roasting alot, so I've been on his roasts now for a while. He's pretty good at it, so I don't pay much attention to commercially available blends and/or roasts. Plus, he does custom 'requests' that are right on the money. Honestly, home roasting scares me. I have a feeling I would totally dig it, so I think to myself " Great ... another hobby" lol.
This is interesting. I discovered straight razors about 2 months ago from a person posting on Sweetmarias weblog. It seems that the older I get the more I find my self looking for simpler and often better solutions to the things we take for granted every day (drinking coffee, shaving).
I've only been roasting coffee for about 1 1/2 years but I can tell you I've never had better in a coffee shop. For those people using a french press, I might suggest trying a vacuum pot. I find that the coffee taste is similar but without the sludge at the bottom of the cup. I've had one implode on me but that was because I was using a glass filter rod and not paying close enough attention. But at $30 a piece, you can break 8 of them before your up to the price of the Technivorm.
I hope my straight razor collection doesn't get as big as my green bean stash!
Try Chestnut Hill coffee Co. (www.chestnuthillcoffee.com). I was just there this evening for a shot and picked up a pound of the house blend to use in the French press while I am in Philly. They roast on premises, have a 4 group LaMarzocco and a couple of Mazzer Majors. Nice shop and I love Chestnut Hill. Just a cool little town, cobble stone streets, ancient stone architecture, looks like a photograph from a hundred years ago.
I've been using an Aero Press with dark roasts twice a morning at work for at least 18 months. Best coffee I've made. I highly recommend them.
To stay on topic, I love my Aeropress. I think the inverted start method gives a more rounded cup, but it is somewhat difficult to accomplish early in the morning. I've roasted my own for years. Progressed through the FreshRoast I, modded Poppery I, and now a Gene Cafe (the Behmor really looks good too). There is nothing like a good cup of fresh roasted coffee. I will not even mention my espresso set up, as that's more towards nectar than coffee.

Got to love the french press-!! Here are some delicious full bodied bold coffee's from starbucks, Casi Cielo, Arabia Mocha Sanani, Cafe Estima, & Cafa Verona. I use a grinder to grind the bean's fresh right before I make it. Love it-!!
Ok .. I've just made it into my wifes bad books ..... I've gone and ordered an AeroPress :-) for the price and the reviews I've read here it's an absolute bargain ... can't wait to try it out once it arrives
