1. Zbrowka
I would have a longer list, but I drank too much Zbrowka and forgot it.... :D Man, that is good stuff.
Too many wild college parties with Everclear involved has turned me off of all Vodkas.
Although I'm not sure Everclear is classified as a Vodka?
it's not, it's moonshine. closer to whiskey
LOL...
Everclear is Grain Alcohol. In other words as close to legal moonshine as you get. And its only sold in select states.
Anywho .....
Grey Goose - The only Vodka I drink anymore
I used to like Rimanto, a potato vodka. From the freezer as cold as possible.

All kinds of Vodka. I went through a Greyhound phase, and always asked for Absolute. Now I just ask for Stoli in it. Can't tell much of a difference with the mixer there.
If I'm drinking it straight it's Belvedere or Grey Goose.
If I drink vodka, I usually drink Vikingfjord.
My second choice is Absolute.
I'm not a big fan of vodka; I certainly can't drink it straight. In my college days, I liked Skyy as a mixer since it is pretty smooth and cheap. Smirnoff blue label is also a great mixer and has a higher proof than the normal red stuff.
I guess that makes those my favorite two, not that I would really call either a favorite.
1) Hangar One
2) Titos
3) Some weird "not for export" russian vodka that my Brother-in-law's in-law's get from their family in Russia. I think it's called Russian Best or something. The label is in russian, so I don't know.
It is very good. It is consumed by the (big) glass every time I see them.
For a decent potato vodka that is a reasonable pric try Monopolowa.Very nice
THAT'S IT! I remember them saying the name now that you mention it. First time I met them, there was a BIG long table, with about 30 men at it. A guy who goes by the name "big boris" to differentiate from the three other Borises (what is the plural of Boris?) at the party says (in really thickly accented English) "Josh, come, sit...on thees side of table (pointing to the opposite side) they don't drink, or they drink wine like the women. On THEES side of the table (gesturing to his side), we drink Wodka. Seet." So I sat. He took the first bottle of the afternoon and poured three fingers of it into a rocks glass (no ice...the bottle was cold) in front of each of us. Drained them, poured them again. Etc, etc. My wife came down a few hours later to see how I was doing with the men (the women were all upstairs having a bridal shower). It was hot, I was sweating profusely, and simply handed her the keys. "you're going to have to drive....for ever."
Fun day.
1. Level
2. Belvedere
3. Ciroq
Oh yes, Russian drinking isall about fun nights...and miserable days after.
When I was in St. Petersburg, the bar we went to served it in teapots, and you drank it by the teacup. I don't know why...easier to pour drunk, maybe?
But I was lucky the bar was next to nmy apartment, because if it hadn't been, there is NO WAY I would have ever made it home.
I work on rotation in Russia and I do get access to a good range of Russian vodkas. But I am not 100% into Russian vodkas.
Here is my list:
Kauffman Hard (Russia)
Finlandia
Skyy
Vodka? yuck! Rotten potato liquid concentrate!
I prefer spoiled grains and hops, the un-concentrated variety!

I have also heard great things about Zubrowka, but being from the USA, I can't get my hands on it. I'm intrigued by the fact that it's actually classified as a flavored vodka, though.
My favorite vodka right now is Reyka, from Iceland. It's the smoothest one I've ever tasted, followed by closely by Tito's (i'm happy to see that Smokelaw also had this on his list - previously only available by direct shipment from the vendor in Austin, TX, this one is distilled 6 times and has won countless international gold medals), and Belvedere. Honorable mention goes to Chopin, a potato vodka from Poland which is a nice change of pace because it does have a distinctly different flavor from most other vodkas.
Cheers.
who brought my memory back?
I used love vodka Andropov
and in 1990 loved troyka.
don't know now are they available or not.
haven't drink a good vodka for 12 years
It is so good that I pour it for people, and then amaze them with the price. And the name. I think I'll drink Vodka tonight, now that I think about it. It was supposed to be a scotch and cigars night, but we are having a friend over who is newly announced as pregnant, so she won't sit around with us while we smoke (seems reasonable!). I'll get her husband good and congratulatory drunk.
As a seasoned drinker, I've come to a number of realizations, but the simplest is obvious -- that a harsh bite can ruin the pleasures of a good drink. If you can sip a spirit at room temperature, notice the enjoyable flavor distinctly, and not make a wincing face (think Popov), then you know it's good stuff.
Smokelaw, if you really enjoy Tito's, give Reyka a shot. I've seen it available in several liquor stores stateside, and since you're also on the east coast (I'm in NJ), you should be able to find it.
I'll +1 on Ogie Oglethorpe on the name (old time hockey coach)
I'll also +1 on Oglethorpe on getting rid of the bite and really enjoying a quality drink. I'm a self proclaimed oneophile, so I'm hyper-aware of any off putting or sub par aromas or flavors.
The ones on my shelf right now:
Ciroc - made from grapes, just a touch sweeter and an incredible drink
Kalashnikov - Obvious links to the famous gun, but it's a potato vodka, very nice flavor, good russian drink.
Jewel of Russia - A very 'classic' russian vodka, love the bottle, a little more expensive, but this one's got a little bite.
Smirnoff - cause I own Diageo stock
Others I've enjoyed:
Chopin
Effen
Belvedere
Finlandia
Now I need a glass on the rocks tonight
I can usually find it pretty easily. Worst case is I have to wait until i drive through NH and pick up a case at the NH state Liquor store.
I drink tequilla and most good whisky as well as brandy/cognac and rum at room temp. It's the only way I find flavors will really announce themselves, or allow themselves to be discovered. Vodka, I've never really enjoyed at room temp. I know when a good vodka gets warmer, it's still quite drinkable. When absolute, etc get warmer...no thank you.
Mmmm...now I am in the mood for a drink. I'm going to go home and start drinking (gently) while i get the baby ready for dinner and bed.
Have a great weekend, everybody.
There is nothing better than Belvedere!
Tito's is most definitely my vodka of choice.
I once asked at the local state store and they just shrugged (despite the fact that it was on the official state listing). But some local big wig ordered a case, so they got it for him. I don't know if anyone else buys it, but they always have it now, and I regularly buy my share.
Hook 'em horns!
I am surprised not Ultimat Vodka drinkers out there. This stuff is so smoooooooooth!!!!!! Very nice.
:tu
Also a fan of the Goose and Belvedere.

I'm not sure how easy it is to get over there, but there's a New Zealand-made vodka called 42 Below - so named because it's made on the 42nd parallel, also because it's 42% alc.vol, so slightly stronger.
You can get it plain (my personal favourite) but also flavoured with kiwifruit, feijoa (great with apple juice), passionfruit, and manuka honey (really nice). If you can find a bottle of it I'd strongly recommend it - it's crisp, slightly sweet, and still very smooth.
For poverty row budgets the very low priced Skol Vodka is good enough for mixing.:)
Vodka, Hmmmmm
Kettle
Goose
Absolute...
Only if I had to choose
Prefer Gin over Vodka
and
BEER over any licquor
:beer2:
The Reyka is actually pretty good. Just tried it and very nice.
