I have always had a love of old British motorcycles, and have owned a couple of old Triumphs, a BSA, as well as an old restored Norton. I had been toying with the idea of buying another vintage Bonne, but have been starting to lean towards purchasing a new Bonneville or possibly a Scrambler. Do any of you on here have any experience with the new Triumphs?? Are they mechanically strong, etc? Any and all input is welcome and appreciated! Thanks, Friends!
For the price of one of those things(new, don't know about vintage) they better be strong.
In my search(ing) for a first bike I have never read anything bad about them.

They are excellent bikes, but I am a bit biased. I have a 2005 Thruxton (which is essentially the cafe racer styled Bonnie) - haven't had any issues with it. Have a friend with the 50th anniversary Bonnie - he loves it and again, no issues.
several years ago I looked at the Thruxton. They had one in blue. It was a beautiful color. Wish I had bought it.
Thruxton is such a sexy bike. I love my Blast, it's a fun little bike, but there's something about the Thruxton that oozes fun.
I have always been a KTM supermoto guy--the only cruisers I have ever owned were vintage Triumphs, a BSA, and a Norton. I was looking at another old 60's Triumph (beautiful resto, but pricey), but I thought the price on the new ones was pretty damn reasonable so why not go for it??!!
I love the Thruxtons as well, but they sit like my former R1 almost since they are sportier, so I think I want something a little less aggressive. I had the pleasure of riding a demo Bonneville (2008) and it was VERY NICE! It was black on black with the black motor--simply badazz! I would go buy one today had I not just bought a new sports car--plus a gorgeous set of forged wheels for it that cost about $3500! I suppose the smart thing to do will be to wait a few months then decide if I want a Bonneville, or if I want to go the route of a Speed Triple or Street Triple 675. I love all of them, so it's a hard decision. I know that they just came out with the Street Triple R, and it's supposed to be an absolute land rocket!
Speaking of the KTM, I was drooling over a Superduke 990 at the shop the other day. That thing is an entirely different world of badassery (such a word must exist to describe this bike). I can't help but feel that I would get myself into a lot of trouble with one.

I owned an older Duke that I sold a couple of years back, however I loved that bike and miss it often. Actually I miss all of my KTM's--especially my race bike, which was a custom built 453 that I slaved over and was a lil rocket!
The SuperDuke is badazz, but I think there are some other things I would prefer at the moment. I know that is hard to believe, but the Street Triple R and the Hypermotard S are really amazing bikes as well. The reason I am leaning towards a cruiser though is because I can be a bit of a hooligan on my bikes--wheelies and stoppies all over the place!!! That's what gets me into trouble--almost landed a $900 ticket for a wheelie a couple of years back!
I hear ya on the cruisers. My dad bought a V-Star 1100 about a year ago, so of course I had to ride it :D It was such a different ride from the sportbikes, but entirely enjoyable. One trouble factor is always present though, and that's speed. The cruisers are so comfy and smooth that you don't realize it when you're doing, say, 90.
I can't decide on what my next bike should be. I think, however, it'll be something in the sportbike area. I need something a little more nimble for the idiot cagers around here. As much as I enjoy riding cruisers, you can't throw 'em around as much.
The real solution to this problem is to buy one of each, right? :D
I am torn as well--sportier bike or cruiser??? I love the new fuel injected Husky's, as well as some of the new Streetfighters like the Street Triple and the Ducati 696 and Hypermotard. I really like a lot of the new bikes to be honest, and that is why I am so torn! My friend, a private vintage bike dealer out of ATL, has some great stuff right now (as always actually.) He has two 1971 Triumph Trailblazer 250's that are going for between $2k and $2500!!! It would be a fun little bike to bounce around town on and take out in the desert here in AZ. Plus you can't go wrong with that price!!! Check out all of his offerings, Quick...he always has cool stuff that would be hard to find elsewhere!
