Fish On!

It's the middle of summer and no recent fishing threads to be found? I'm disappointed in all of you. Or maybe I'm blind.

Anyways, I love to go fishing on the lakes around here. This past weekend, I went largemouth bass fishing on a local lake. I fished friday night (not too much luck), and when it got too dark, I just anchored on the edge of a reed bed in the middle of the lake, and went to sleep in the bottom of the canoe. I was woken up by a nesting pair of loons about 15 feet from the canoe at 4:30, the crack of dawn. I proceeded to sit up in the canoe and start fishing again, and I had an incredible time. I went no more than 10 seconds waiting for a bite every cast. I landed numerous little bass, a bunch of 3-4 pound bass and two 5 pound lunkers. Nothing better than some early morning bass fishing (my favorite fish to catch and release-because of their big hits, massive fight and wonderful leaps.) Hopefully pics soon.

Anyways, I always love fish stories, so grace us with your angling feats.

I used to fish bass and carp with a bow...those were good times. Now i live in the big city bass fishing isnt available on this side of the state.

Wow, what a great life experience. I agree it's hard to get away and do that when you live in the city.

A few years ago I was bass fishing on a nice tranquil lake from a canoe by myself. I was kneeling in the middle so I could balance the canoe better and paddle easier. Unfortunately, this cut off the circulation in my legs and after an hour my legs were numb and throbbing. I shifted back onto the stern seat to get the feeling back. This must have caused a sudden drop in blood pressure because began to feel faint.

I have blacked out on occasions in the past, so as a precaution I leaned slightly forward to lower my head towards my knees to overcome the dizzy spell. That is the last thing I remember.

When I came-to some time later I was in the lake underwater. My first concious thought was hearing myself gasp forcefully. My legs kicked down and hit the bottom and I raised my head up to catch a breath. I was standing in chest deep water. For about 15 seconds I had no idea where I was or why I was standing in water. Very freaky feeling.

Then I noticed my canoe floating upside down a few feet away and I figured what had happened. I lost a cell phone, a nice $400 camera, and a $600 pair of Nicon Super-E binoculars. I was later able to recover the binoculars and have them factory restored for almost nothing. I also recovered all my fishing gear. When I turned the canoe over, my PFD was safely stowed in the bow. Ever since this incident I wear the dang thing when I'm on the water.

Sad to say that my current ability to fish... is the local fish market...

I'm into small fish or big, not much for the mid rangers :p Halibut or horse mackrel, but I'm working on it :p

It is late winter here in NZ and I spent the weekend getting my boat into fishing shape ready for summer

I have 2 young boys (7 and 4) they are both really keen fishermen. Salt water fishing is what we usually do, leave home before daylight and within 60 minutes we are on the water Kawakawa Bay Boat Club has a picture or 2 of the area.

Usually catch snapper which is a well known eating fish but there is a lot of choice out there, it is rare to come back with nothing.

Lots of small Islands off of the coast so can easily spend the day exploring. Lots of commercial mussel farms attract lots of fish.

Can't wait to get out there again, the weather is improving and getting warmer day by day

Goals for this summer are to recapture a 20 pound plus snapper that escaped at the boat last summer and to spend lots of time out there with my boys.
Oh and to actually land a kingfish (tough fighters, for every 6 you hook 5 get away after busting up all of your gear)

I'm getting out several times a week...on local trout streams with a fly rod. Central Pennsylvania has wonderful limestone and freestone streams. Plenty of water this year. Caught a 20" brown on a size 20 ant on saturday.

Dear god I wish I was in Norway this month fly fishing. That's where I learned. Thanks for those pics. They made me really regret not being there this Summer.
